This weekend will be another good one with the Boy Scouts. We'll be camping this weekend, with activities like a 5 mile walk...This will just about do me in for the year! Campfires and doggies over the fire, oh don't forget about the popcorn! This will be the last one for this season! Our next one will be in February, in a cottage (thank God) and doing some ice fishing! What a life! I must make sure that I pack some fishing equipment for the boys if I expect to return home in one piece!

HERE'S MY STORY I POSTED ON NAHC:
WELL TODAY WAS THE LAST DAY AND I WAS IN MY STAND BY 4:30am. HAD TO SMALL BUCK UNDER THE STAND FROM 6:00am TILL 6:20am. THEY DID THEIR THING AND WENT AND DID THEIR BUSINESS. AT ABOUT 7:00am A MONSTER BUCK SHOWED UP. HAD NO PICTURES OF THIS ONE ON THE CAMERA. HE WAS AT ABOUT 40yds, BUT NO CLEAR SHOT. I THOUGHT HE WAS HEADING AWAY FROM ME, THEN HE TURNED AND HEADED TOWARDS ME. THE HEART WAS PUMPING AND HANDS WAS A SHAKING. BY THE TIME HE GAVE ME A CLEAR SHOT HE WAS AT 15yds. WHEN THE CROSSBOW FIRED, THE BUCK JUMPED AND BOLTED AND WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STAND AND HE STOOD THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES, SEEMED LIKE FOREVER, AND I TRIED TO RELOAD THE CROSSBOW. WHEN I GOT THE CROSSBOW RESTRUNG AND ARROW INSERTED, THE BUCK WAS OUT OF RANGE. HE WAS HURT BAD. THE ONLY THING WAS THE ARROW HIT A LITTLE HIGH. NOW YA HAVE TI IMAGINE THIS, THE BUCK IS A HUGE MONSTER. HE HAS EITHER 10 OR 12 POINTS AND IS HAS OVER 20" SPREAD. HIS BROW TINES ARE AT LEAST 6" AND HIS MASS IS UNGODLY, ALSO HIS RACK IS WAY ABOVE HIS EARS. NOW THE BRAIN IS WORKING OVERTIME AND IT SAYS TO GO AFTER HIM, BUT I KNOW BETTER. I LEFT HIM GO FOR 1.5 HOURS AND THEN I TRACKED HIM. I TRACKED HIM FOR OVER 300 yds AND I FOUND HIM. THE ONLY THING WAS, I FOUND HIS GUTS. NOW YOU HAVE TO IMAGINE ME HAVING DEER RAGE. I FOLLOWED THE DRAG MARKS AND IT LEAD TO THE ROAD. THE ONLY THING WAS THERE WAS NO VEHICLE. I WENT TO MY FRIENDS HOUSE RITE ACROSS THE STREET AND HE SAID THERE WAS A WHITE FORD P/U PARKED THERE. I HOPE FOR THEIR SAKE I NEVER SEE THAT VEHICLE PARKED THERE AGAIN. YOU CAN JUST IMAGINE WHAT WILL HAPPEN. SORRY FOR BEING LONG WINDED, BUT I HATE THIS WHEN IT HAPPENS, CAUSE IT MAKES US SPORTSMAN LOOK LIKE SH!?. WELL THAT'S MY STORY.

Sorry to hear that Howard and even though you are the mild mannered type....you gotta be smokin' mad . What happened is not the norm, but there are those out there that still have no honor. I could never imagine myself taking another hunter's animal and I'm not sure how I would handle coming upon someone taking my kill. Tough one buddy, especially since you waited so long and did get a shot at that big one .

Sorry to hear this Kinger. I don't see how people can call themselves ethical hunters when they do this crap. Maybe he doesn't consider himself ethical.

Not a good way to end a season sorry to hear about this kinger.
Doesn't Pete have a white ford p.u. ? Just kidding if Pete was there he would have took it to your house. It would have been cut up and package for you by the time you got home.

.........with Pete's knee Kinger would have got him in the act..... .....that's to bad Kinger just not right at all........now when I hunted using a bow it was a full recuve and also I used a stick bow. Now on another site a guy waited for the next morning to go look for his deer real nice one but I would be leary eating it after it sat all night. I see you waited 1.5 hours and it sound like your didn't get far either. We wait about the same amount of time you do or just a tad longer my question is with these "new" hard hitting fast bows that will send the arrow right thru the deer do you have to wait that long like I did ???? Just seems like a good hit now with a bow should be like a rifle shot 15 minutes if he goes out of sight..........what do you think Kinger am I all wet here with this thought ????

Sorry to hear about you loosing your monster buck Kinger. Things like this happen often in the area I hunt in rifle season. I try to stay away from that particular area.

ED IT IS JUST THE WAY I WAS BROUGHT UP. THIS IS HOW MY FATHER TAUGHT ME. YES THE NEW BOWS OF TODAY ARE SO STRONG AND FAST, BUT I'VE SEEN AND HEARD OF HUNTERS CHASING A DEER ALL DAY, BECAUSE OF NOT LETTING THE ANIMAL LAY DOWN. IT ALSO HAPPENED TO ME IN RIFLE SEASON WHEN I WAS YOUNG. I CHASED HIM FOR AND HOUR BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET ANOTHER SHOT AND KILL HIM. IF I WOULD OF WAITED HE WOULD OF BEEN THERE WHERE HE LAID DOWN. I GUESS THERE ARE PROS AND CONS ON THIS SUBJECT.

Well guys I finally got back from campin' wit the scouts. It was a busy weekend. What, with the 5 mile hike and all. And then the strangest thing happened, I was sitting around camp when all of a sudden this huge buck come limping into camp and just falls over dead...I was in shock! I call out to the boys ta give me a hand loading the deer so we could take it to the butcher shop! That night we had fresh deer steaks for supper! I would just like ta say thanks to the kind person that donated such a fine animal to my scouts dinner table!
So I told the young fellas that I had better take a pic so that my fellow club members could see who was having all the fun!
We didn't catch any fish but we had a swell time learning how to tye knots, selecting jigs and soft plastics and learning how to cast with a weughted bobber! Woowee, now that be livin"
Howard, sorry to hear about your deer. I know you have been looking for him a coupla years... Like Wayne said, some folks have no honor...

Great pics of the fine young men. turnip, were those tents set up over raised plywood? Looks like a workable way to keep the damp, cool ground away from the floor. Great idea if ya don't mind hauling the wood with you.

Wayne, those platforms are provided by the campsite. They are perminatly in place. However, my tent doesn't fit those...BTW, the night we arrived we had to set up in the rain! But we manage to lit a fire and have our late nite snack...

Looks like those fellows had a good time. Some time you should bring them here to NY and camp at BSA camp Henderson and then take them to the baseball hall of fame. Camp Henderson is about 30 minutes or less from Cooperstown.

Went to that lil creek the other day---got a rainbow, but he wasn't big enough to be worth filletin' (just at the limit of 7"). I sent him back to go grow up.
