Asian Carp

I recieved a forward of an article on the Asian carp invasion of the Great Lakes. Seems it MAY not be such a big deal, as it is probable that they will be unable to survive in the great lakes. If anyone is interested, PM me with an email address and I will forward the article (Great Lakes Angler) to you. Tom

Fingers Rubbed Raw!

As of lately, I have been lipping so many bass that my fingers (especially my thumb) have large bleeding sores. I can barely hold items due to the agonizing pain. As of this morning, they seem to have become infected. I've tried putting antibiotic ointment on them, but that doesn't seem to be working. I'm sure everyone has experienced this at one time or another. Anyone have any advice?

Has anyone ever used an Emmrod packrod or the related versions of this pole? It is very innovative-looking, but I hesitate to pay a lot for a complete unknown. I found these at roxierods.com while looking for a new spinning rod.

If you could fish anywhere...

So my family is planning a big vacation this summer since it'll be my last summer before heading off to college and therefore I get to pick the spot. What's everybody's top pick for fishing in the Northeast? I was thinking Virginia since I've heard great things about the trout fishing in that area. Lake Michigan is also on the table. Anywhere I'm missing that anyone would strongly recommend?

Baitcasting Reel

I bought a Guide Series baitcasting rod and reel combo at Gander Mountain and the first time I brought it out the reel broke. I traded it in for another one and the first time I brought it out it broke also. When I return this one I would like to get a baitcasting combo that will last more than an hour and that is my question. For convenience I would like to get one at Gander Mountain if possible, so does anyone have any experience with a Pflueger Endeavor, Quantum Burst, Pflueger Echelon, or Abu Garcia MAX. If all of these are garbage I could spring for a Shimano Caenan but it is an additional $70 whereas the rest would be paid for by the return. I am not experienced with baitcasters so any help would be appreciated.

Taxidermy Poll

Something I've been wondering lately as the winter dreams of landing the big one in 2013 begin to surface is whether a skin mount or fiberglass mount is the way to go once the fish of a lifetime shows up. Theres the obvious advantages and disadvantages to each, like having to maintain a skin mount or the expense of a fish recreation, but which one would you go with, or have you gone with? Anyone have a mount that they like or don't like? I might be counting my chickens before they hatch but it's a legitimate concern for the occasional striper fisherman in Boston

Need Help Identifying a mystrious fish!

Hello

I need help finding out what mysterious fish is toying with my mind!
The other day, my girlfriend and I went to the local lake to fish from the dock, we were fishing for bluegills, and about
an hour after we started fishing i noticed something moving about 15-20ftu from the dock.
then a large fin emerges from the water and starts waving at me for about 5u long seconds!
It was a dark round fin, and quite large, at least the size of an adult human hand or more.
It stayed in the same aream making whirlpools in the water, and ocasionally waving at me again.
Later on it got a little closer and I noticed it was at least 3.5ft-4.5ft long,
Dark in color, and a round head, it was sitting in one spot again waving at us but im starting to think that it was waving somehow
with its tail fin?
Odd because when it waved, the fin was completly out of the water straight up in the air?

If anyone has seen this before please share!
If anyone can tell me what it is that would comfort me knowing its not nessy!

Newby

Hi. My name is Richard. I'm new at this fishing thing, and really want to get into it, but other than the 101 basics I'm lost. Right now I am only able to go to a couple lakes in Michigan that have boat rentals. (I like boat fishing the most.) It just seems to me that I don't catch much of anything. I smallmouth, here or there, and some small panfish. I usually only use night crawlers. Someone told me to stay with that, and not to worry about other types of lures. I'm just looking for some help to up my level in the world of fishing. So, if anyone is willing to gve me some advise on how I can further my career in fishing, then let me know.
