I just received my first order from LureCraft.com. I was selected to test a gift card from the through StuffStuff.com. I was very impressed with their customer service and selection in the catalog. they had some harder to find items at a good price. Shipping was a little steep though. I would definately order from them again.

Turnips Spoons

Last spring I started buying up painted spoon blanks in an effort to discover a combination that would work well for lake trout, salmon, brown trout, rainbow trout and anything else that would hit a spoon that is trolled. So this is what I taped up for this past spring:

The black & red ones turned out to be winners for lake trout and pike. The following is what I taped up this year (2009) and will field test this spring:

Tying Trebles

After I finished tying up some streamers, I decided to tie some peanut flies. These are usually trolled behind a flasher...

I have made two light colored ones before, but the other three are new and will have to be field tested!

Tied Jigs

I received an order for some assorted walleye jigs. The painted jigs were sent to me and I put some feathers on them...

The pics are a little dark but I think you can get the idea. I only have 20 more to do... Please feel free to add comment and / or pics of your own! These are 1/8 and 1/16 oz. jigs.

Swimbaits: Jighead vs Texas rig?

I have a question that I was hoping that some swimbait whiz could help me with.

If I'm throwing a paddletail swimbait such as a money minnow, when should a throw it on a weighted swimbait hook, and when should I throw it on a jighead? I know around cover, the texas rig style may be better, but does that automatically mean that in open water a jighead is necessarily better? Because with the jighead the bait will fall head first, but on the texas rig the bait will fall more even. I'm just not sure how to decide when which is better.

I tested this thing and it worked like a charm...

This is the Rapala Rippin' Rap RPR-7 fresh water lure coming in at a whopping 7/8 oz measuring 2 3/4" by 7/8". What a powerful weapon in your fish catchin' arsenal! This baby will attract Bass, Crappie and big Red Ear and probably others. It sounds like the circus has come to town when you rip it through the water and the fishies will want to see the show. Available at better sporting goods stores near you.

Tackle Boxes / Tackle Organization

We USED to have a topic on here about tackle boxes and what we had....and what our thoughts were when it came to organizing our stuff. I spent an hour trying to find it yesterday....but had NO luck.

So here we go again!

I had talked about back then about how I had 2 basic groups of lures in 2 MAIN tackle boxes....one box of stuff 3/8 oz and smaller, the other 1/2 oz and bigger. At one point I talked about splitting my stuff up for "clear water" and "stained water"....and although I may do a bit of that....I've had some other thoughts.

Over the months I started looking at 2 other basic types of waters....those with HEAVY cover / weeds....and those without.

So I decided to do the following...

Here's a box of things I'm putting together for HEAVY cover / weed waters...virtually ALL weedless/ snagless lures. Not very organized yet....but will be in a few days.

And here's another box that I'm putting together....all topwater baits. It's a Plano 1444....with multiple levels of storage.

What is your favorite "unknown" lure/manufacture?

Everyone swears by the senkos, Rapala's, Rooster Tails ect.. All well known house.. I mean tackle box names. So, my question to you is : What is your favorite "unknown" lure or manufactuer?

Mine is from Wyld Edge Lures, The Berezerker in a "custon" color off the steelhead lures called hot fuzz.

Cleaning jig head eyes

I bought some painted 1/64 oz jig head and I cannot get the paint out of the eyes so I can tie my line on. I thought they would be perfect for things like wax worms, the 1" gulp minnow and such, except I cannot get to the line tie. Any ideas?

Think Tank TriggerFish

Has anyone seen or tried the Think Tank "TriggerFish" ??

It is a lure with incredible steering capability.

It can be fished a few different ways. You can chug it along, which makes it bubble and pop on the surface.

You can fish it zig zag style weaving it in and out of structure or under docks.

I like to also fish it going in one direction. I can cast towards the shore and instead of retreiving it straight back to me, it will run paralell with the shoreline.

Incredibly well built and available in many different color combinations. My personal favorites are the "Baby Bass" and

"Ghost Rainbow Trout"

Check them out. I "Think" you'll enjoy them !

Weedless River Runt

Has anyone ever seen these? I picked one up at the flea mkt Saturday and thought it was "home made". In all my years this is the first I've ever seen. Never knew they made one and I'm a River Runt fan.

alabama rig

i have seen very much of the alabama rig in the elite series this year.. however i think there are certain laws/regulations in each state. this brings me to my first question - is this true???? i have also heard several anglers say you need a extra heavy rod.. would a med.- heavy work??? And im assuming you would use braid line? if so or if not tell me what line i shold use.
