New Jersey/ Delaware stripers

I was hoping to try some striper fishing this spring for the first time. Anyone have any advise on what I should try bait/ lure wise and locations. I do have a 23 foot boat so it does matter if its shore fishing or boat fishing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Umbrella rigs for stripers

The latest mag talks about the popularity of umbrellas rigs, mainly for largemouth bass. Has anybody ever used them for stripers? We troll about 50' - 100' deep for them in a local reservoir but have never used these. Usually, we just troll cut plug sardines (like we used to do with herring for salmon in WA). We do alright, but these umbrella rigs look pretty cool and I can see it attracting a school of stripers. What lures would you consider rigging it up with?<br>

reports coming in from some of the buddies that schoolies are around Plum Island area, but you know that the bigger ones will be close by, and more so on the surfside rather than outflow of the Merrimack. Rumor has it they're active too, so all you chunkers better hang up the lead now and tie on something else. i know im heading that way myself this evenong.
