Trolling motor controller

Well, I decided to try to put some velcro on the base of the foot control of my trolling motor. Went to all of the trouble of putting a plate on the bottom of the motor before I checked to see if the velcro would work---It didn't so now it is back to the drawing board. Maybe I will look up a Riv-nut tool.

Bartlett Lake, 4-12/13-13

Well! We arrived at the lake and my boat's motor wasn't running right after sitting 5 months. Didn't make it to the spot I wanted to fish, so we beached the boat next to "Flathead Ed", who had caught the new Arizona state record flathead catfish @ 6 hours before we got there. Our achievements? Danny and I each caught a channel cat weighing @ 1pound! During the night I hooked a 6.75 pound channel cat. Other than the bait we caught, that was it, however, it was still another great weekend on the water with my good friend Danny.
Big Redear In Havasu

I saw this on Facebook, a redear sunfish of 5.7-5.9 pounds was caught be a man prefishing for a tournament at Havasu. This is larger than the 5.55 # record, also caught at Havasu in 2011.
They didn't say if he was going to apply for a new record.

Carp fishermen in Arizona!!

Is anyone here in Arizona thinking of entering one of the KOKS Tournaments? I would think there are some good ones here in the state although the koi Virus which went down the river last year hit stocks fairly hard. Come to think of it, if there was a die off in Pleasant, that may have been the reason. Probobly had big die off in the canals in Imperial Co., CA as well as all the lakes which get Colorado River water in SoCal.

White Mountains

My wife and I took a few days off and went to the White Mountains. It rained every day. We spent Monday and Tuesday. We did some fishing, between the rain and thunder, there was lots of rain and thunder. I caught one small one and that is all. We did some crawdad catching, she likes getting them to grab a bait and getting them to shore, My job was "bug grabber", I would grab them and put them in to a bucket, she wasn't about to pick them up. Best ones we found were at Big Lake which isn,t even on the Reservation, we took some to the owner of the motel 'cause he likes them.

Seems the ones doing the best were those getting off of the bank in the mornings, I was one of the ones sitting on the bank whith the other "skunkies".

Other than the rain and electrical storms cutting into the time that we had to "fish", my biggest gripe is the sorry state of the facilities of the restrooms on the reservation, they were often not cleaned too well and there was rarely any TP. Well, maybe there was in the campgrounds but we didn't check there.

I have been to the White Mountains a number of times and have usually enjoyed myself, camped a number of times in the past and also stayed in Pinetop and fished several areas, both by myself and with the wife and granddaughters and the facilities were worse this time.

On the other hand, that facilities at Big Lake were clean and had paper, so the next time we may stay at springerville and just go to Big Lake. Shame as there is such a large variety of fishing opertunities on the Reservation.

Kathrines landing again

Went out to the fishing/handicap pier at Kathrines landing twice this week, the first time I hooked a couple of bass on a rattle trap and the second (Thursday), I was skunked. I was trying out the hot dog w/ kool-aid and garlic and got no takers. The worst part is the bail on my Daiwa jammed in the open position, made it hard to retrieve the lure, but I did. Now I have to box the reel up and send it in for repair-I have never had something like that ever happen to me. Oh, well, I will prepare another batch of 'dogs, cutting the pieces shorter this time and hit it again next week.

Hope you all are getting a few-Allen

Canyon Lake 4-6/7-12

OK, went to Canyon for my annual birthday fishing trip and caught my personal best largemouth, 5.53 pounds, on my 7 weight fly rod with an Enrico Puglisi Pinfish fly. AWESOME! A 5 minute fight before I could land it. We also caught 3 channel cats of around 3 pounds, a yellow bass and a bunch of sunfish. Another great Canyon Lake trip!
Canyon Lake 6-1/2-12

Well, Canyon didn't deliver the numbers of fish we are used to, but we got 7 nice channel cats from 2 to 8 pounds. Very HOY this weekend. I spent a lot of time snorkleing in the cove. Still fun at Canyon!
Canyon Lake 9-23/24-11

Camped at The Point campground. really crowded. We caught a lot of bluegill and green sunfish for flathead cat bait at night. While fishing with my 5/6 weight fly rod for sunfish I hooked a 6 pound channel cat. WOW! What a great fight on that rod. Later in the night I hooked what had to be a BIG flathead on my channel cat rig, a medium-heavy rod with a BPS Megacast MCM2000 reel with 175 yards of 17 pound test line. I couldn't turn the fish or stop it. After 60 to90 seconds it wrapped the line around a snag and I lost it. Caught a yellow bullhead about 10 to 12 inches and a channel cat the same size as well. No bass this trip. Had fun with those two larger cats though.
Lake Pleasant 8-20/21-11

Went to Lake Pleasant Saturday/Sunday. WOW! The lake level was as low as I've ever seen it! About 50% capacity. Explored all the northern coves and river and decided on Humbug Cove. Got to examine a lot of structure and creek channel that are normally submerged, so I learned much about one of my favorite places to fish at Pleasant. Caught a 3 to 4 pound channel cat at 10:35 Saturday morning while fishing for sunfish for flathead bait using my light weight spinning rig. What a gas. The rod was bent right over and the cat stripped off line several times before I was able to boat it. Caught another 5 to 6 pounder about 6:30 Saturday night on my designated channel cat rig. Another nice fight. That was it, no bass, but I will be able to use what I learned about the structure there come spring when the lake is full.
Arizona fishing websites?

Can anyone point me to some solid fishing websites for Arizona? With like lake info, depth charts, species in the lake, where to go, where there at, ext... Just got here in Phx, originally from Chicago, and I know Chicago had some good sites. I did read in an earlier post a couple like azbassman.com and yumabassman.com. those were good, but just wondering if there are any others that maybe are better or more preferable. Thanks all!
