Spring Tune Up Muskie Tournament on Clear Lake

Hey folks, For any of you with the sickness known as Muskie Fishing, Next Saturday, April 28th, The Heartland Chapter of Muskies Inc is holding their 12th annual <b>"Spring Tune-Up" Muskie tournament on Clear Lake</b> in North Central Iowa. This is a one day only tournament with a group of great guys and visitors from all over the midwest (due to Clear Lake not having a closed season for muskies), The fishing (notice I did not say catching) starts at 7am and goes until 5pm followed by hospitality, dinner and drinks at The Other Place on Highway 18 in Clear Lake. Nice fish have been caught, many stomachs have been filled, and a few brain cells damaged (by drinking)! This is a really fun time and I would recommend this opportunity to get out and toss big lures to start you fishing season right!! For more information contact me Kyl Cabbage at kcabbage78@msn.com.<br>

Was thinking about heading out there some time this month, (june) are there decent places to shore fish as i will not have my boat in tow. Or is there a better place about the same distance from Manchester that you would recommend for a weekend of camping and fishing.<br>

Any safe ice?

I heard that last week 3 people drowned while ice fishing<img src="http://www.fishingclub.com/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/FC/emoticons/sad.gif">. But with the cold weather the last few days I've also heard that there are people on the ice again. I'm planning on trying it tommorow morning and was wondering if anyone had safe ice? You can believe I'm going to check the ice often on the way out. This CABIN FEVER is driving both my wife and I crazy<img src="http://www.fishingclub.com/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/FC/emoticons/crazy.gif">.

Need Some Help

I will be heading to Story City in late July. Can anyone tell me if there are any decent campgrounds, or fishing spots, close to that area? Ames is close to Story City also(for those who have not heard of SC). Thanks in advance. Also, if anyone is close to that area and wants to fish for a few hours, let me know.

2010-11 NW Iowa Ice fishing

Just curious if there is anyone in NW IA. who would like to do some ice fishing with me and my boys somewhere? As long as we are in walking distance until the ice is think enough to drive on with a pick up. I do not have a lot of gear so if you own some it would be helpful. I live in Sioux County, about 1&1/2 hrs. southwest of the Okaboji area. Saturdays are best, maybe some Sundays or Friday evenings.

Adverse Effects of Recreational &amp; Commercial Interests

As a new member i would like to have feedback on the effects of fishing pressure and commerial fishing pressure on the Mississippi pool #10. As a resident on the river being an avid fisherman on that portion of the river, I've watched the size and the number of fish caught reduce. Some speices of fish are more noticable then others. Example panfish i dont keep any myself because i dont think they are the size that they should be. I travel to northern Minnnesota just to fish for panfish. I bring one friend with me every year just to show them what a panfish should look like. After whomever I take north with me they dont keep panfish in our area, beacause they are small compared to what we have. Which is the same in every species of fish. I watch what people pull out of the ice and keep every winter. All i got to say is small. I've seen hoop-nets full of dead fish, full of pike bass carp you name it they swim in and dont come out. Many of reasons heard why that happens, but its all lost to me. Floods, wash down stream, line breaks whatever. It happens anyone who has been on the river knows anything can happen overnight. As a little kid I always thought that the river should be one of the best fisheries in the country but its far from it. O.K. so there are big fish in the river but do one or two big fish make up for the lack of good fishing action. That is the question really if its thought about. Should you keep your limit of fish even if there small, for me I dont keep anything unless the hook has killed them. Even then I still dont like keeping them. Then on top of that you have Recreational boaters that tear up the water making it impossible to fish let alone letting a fish spawn. So i leave the channel because of the boats, what do I get a jet-ski instead in the backwaters great. In my perspective the fish lose and so do we. In my belief it takes everyone to make a good fishiery the young, the old and, the kids.

O.K. thats the end of my rant thank you for listening and any view you might have on the subject
