Hello Kansas...Request for Advice or Fishing Host

Hello Kansas,

I am looking for assistance with fishing in Kansas. I am planning a trip this July for my daughters wedding. She lives near Fort Riley.

Is there anyone willing to help point me in the right direction to target some different species I do not get to fish for in Alaska.

I am interested in fishing for brown trout, bass, cat fish, and pan fish. Even with limited time of about a week, I am hoping to catch a few different species, maybe even something trophy size??

Paul Noles (LM) from TN hosted me for a day in 2008 and I was able to catch both large mouth bass and channel catfish. I was able to be lucky enough to catch one of each species that qualified for TN State trophy fish program. I wrote an artitcle which was published in the NAF magazine about the event.

Well if you are interested in helping me I would really appreciate it, any help with advice or maybe even hosting me for a day. I would certainly return the favor if anyone visits me in Alaska. maybe even write another story about fishing with another member.

Milford Lake, Kansas

Just thought I'd check and see if any one fishes Milford Lake. I live right at the entrance to the Curtis Creek Park, on the west side of the lake.
We had a good day yesterday afternoon. If I can post it, here's a picture of some of our catch. I'm on the left, my friend is holding the big Catfish of the day.
We were shore fishing. Cut shad for bait. Be happy to hear from any locals.
I seen the attachment arrow at the bottom of the page, clicked on it, nothing. Can pictures be posted along with my post? Any help would be appreciated.

Any Kansas NAFC members going to have a meet this year?

Just wondering if any Kansas NAFC members were going to consider having a State meet this yr and where?
I went to the El Dorado Lake meet last yr and enjoyed meeting several new members. [ Fishing wasn't wonderful due to lots of rain] but I still had a good time and visited with several KS members.

Silver Carp in the Kaw

Anyone else had a problem fishing in the river because of the silver carp? I went to the river in about October of last year and the silver carp were so thick, I couldnt tell a real bite from them hitting my line. Anyone know a part of the river not that infested? I live in Edwardsville

Identifying a baitfish species

I live in Edwardsville, but go to the creek in Bonner called Lions Park creek. There is a species of fish I have never seen before, which looks like some sort of suckermouth or darter, but I cant find anything online about them. Anyone live nearby that might know what they are? I am going to try to catch one to get a picture to post on here. They are mossy green, about 3 inches long, with an orange to rust colored eye.

I am looking for a crappie fishing buddy I have a vision impairment (Tunnel Vision) I do have useful eyesight but do not drive.I do have a fully rigged boat but not able to get out that much.I will also help with fuel cost,bait etc. if someone would want to use there boat.Would be best if you lived in or close to Wichita I am able to go anyday of the week...If any member is interested send me a email

hey sscasteele or any other memebers in the olathe area what kinda fishing you all have available there looking for places to fish with my 81 yo dad that are fairly easy to get nto from st louis and maybe hook up with a member that knows the area so i can help keep down the cost. it will need to be a place we can rent a boat if needed or someplace with good shore fishing oppertunities any and all help appreciated. would be looking at 2-3 day trip this fall or next spring. any type fishing is ok but pop would like to get into crappie hot and heavy sometime if that is an option.thanks in advance for your help

Thanks Gentlemen for your reply's, I completely agree to your advise of taking another adult, That is something we always did while I was involved in scouting, we called it two deep leadership then, I have no idea what they call it now, But yes I agree. I would like to get with you too, it just a Lil hard right now as I am in the process of retiring from active duty. I do want to get something started this spring though. Perry Reservoir letting out water

Anyone in The NAFC in the state of Kansas,....According to my US Army Corp of Engineers daily computer release reports, Perry is currently over 5 ft high and they are releasing just over 4,000 CFS [cubic feet per second]. I am sure the rain today will make the lake higher and water release should continue for several more days.

This should make it awfully good fishing below the dam for several days as long as 1,000 CFS or better continues to be released. If you have been yearning to go, now is the time to try that first trip of the year.

Crappie, Walleye, White Bass, Channel Cat, and Flatheads should be the best ones biting.

One will catch an occasional Carp, Drum, or Buffalo as well.

Take a dip net, stringer or fish basket, and good fishing if you go. I should be out there Sat 4/3, or Sunday 4/4, and maybe a few days next week myself.
