Massive Lake Trout caught

Its Mack Days up at Flathead lake in NW montana, this week a record Lake Trout was caught, is on the national news, thot i'd let u all know, was over 30 lbs!!

Holter Lake Report

Just took a run out to Holter Lake. Most fish are holding at 40-60 feet down. Kokanee are bouncing close to the suface nearest the dam launch area as you first put in approximately 50 yards out. Departure point shows signs of slowing with the Walleye, as trolling spoons and rapalas are not yielding fish. Jigging is not working either. What seems to be landing fish is spinners (Mepps). Perch are schooling near Log Gulch, and the First Inlet on the far side of the lake closest to the dam. I took an informal survey at the main boat launch, and found only one person out of 35 asked had anything keepable. Personally, I caught 3 small walleye, in the 7 - 10" range, so not worth keeping. Close to departure point and Indian Head, and Split Rock areas, algae bloom is thick. As you head up into the Gates, Perch holding at 3-4 feet closest to the inlets. Bobber and crawlers working best here. Fish are in the 10-13 inch range were being caught.

Hi all. Since I am kind of new to the club, and see there is a forum available for Montana fishing, I thought I would do a few posts on various spots that I have either fished or scouted, to give members an idea of what is out there in Big Sky Country.

The FWP fishing guide can be found here. The FWP fish field guide (which contains a searchable database on fish found in Montana can be found here.

In other posts, I will give you guys and gals an idea of some of the fishing spots, access points for boats, locales, species, and other information you may find interesting for fishing here in Montana. Feel free to add to the lists and hopefully we can generate some interest and perhaps get a few Montana members together to fish some of these spots.

Fishin in Montana

I'm coming to Montana on my honeymoon (and prospective home hunting trip) in June. We'll be staying in Billings, Great Falls, Kalispell and Bozeman. Anyone have any ideas of places we can go fishin while we're there. We're definitely going to visit Glacier and Yellowstone.

camping/fishing in Glacier
