New to Site

Hi, I live in WNC and I love to fish. Had some bad health for a few years but I'm healed and ready to get back to it. Glad to find this site. Looking forward to trout season in April. We have some great trout fishing in the county I live in.

New to Western NC where do I go!

Hey I just moved to Waynesville, NC. I am from the northwest and have no idea where to go to go fishing. Had to give up the Salmon and Steelhead fishing when I moved down here. I figured down here in this part of the state it's bass, crappie, bluegill, sunfish, catfish, and trout fishing that people go after. What river's or lakes are close to my area that I can hit up? If you provide some idea's on where to go give me some roads that are near by so I can type it in my Garmin. I have been here for almost a month and haven't hit the water yet. I am going insane! Help please I need to get out of the house before I loose my mind!

New BassPro Shop to be in Northern NC

Just like to pass this information on to all the Northern Bass Fishermen & Women of a new Bass Pro Shop in Northern part of N.C. The location is in Cary, but now more information is passed on by company. This is only 2 counties from my county, Concord is 6 counties a long trip and bad area to break down. Hope they make the location off the main HWY. and have no other stores in the same locations. haven't heard of the exact location of BassPro Shop. Now all we need is Cabela's Store.

My BWS 2012 Experience

In 2012 I entered my first Bassmaster Weekend Series (BWS) North Carolina Division 5 tournament as a co-angler. The one-day tournament, held at Jordan Lake in Apex, NC, wasn't quite what I had expected. The field was small, only 25 boats. I was expecting there to be atleast 40 boats, if not 50. Out of the 25 boats I finished the tournament in an eleven-way tie for 16th place. It wasn't a very good day for me as I caught nothing.

I started the day casting a buzz-bait and a Rebel Pop-R near the grass along the shoreline with no success. As the day went on I switched to a Rapala DT-6 and missed 2 fish. I wasn't sure how but it happened. I switched lures a couple of more times with no luck at all. That afternoon the topwater bite was over and I had switched over to a shaky-worm that my boater gave to me to try. This was the first time I had used a shaky-worm. I had thought about using shaky-worms for a while, but always stuck with the Texas-rig. I fished it about 5 feet from the grass line, where they seemed to be holding at or near the bottom. On the first bite, I went to set the hook too soon and pulled up nothing but half of a worm. It was getting late in the tournament and I hadn't caught a single fish. I pressed on throwing the shaky-worm and then it happened, a good bite and a solid hook-set, or so I thought. I reeled in knowing that I had a keeper on the end of my line. About half-way to the boat, my rod straighted out and the line went limp. It was gone and I wouldn't get another bite for the rest of the day.

On the way back to the launching area, I was feeling down and out about my failure to boat a fish. All I could think was "I'm better than that". Once my boater got his catch weighed in, we talked about how the day went. I mentioned my doubts about my participation in tournament fishing, Also that, I knew that I was a better bass angler that I was that day. He reminded me to focus on what I had learned and apply that to the next time.

Looking back, 2012 hasn't been a very good fishing year for me. I haven't had much luck anywhere this year, not even my home waters. Just yesterday, a friend and I took my canoe out and didnt even get a bite. I have had quite a few days like that, more so than usual this year.

Randleman Reservoir

Has anyone fished here any? It should be about ready to produce some good bass. I, myself, can't wait to get out on it.

My wife is going to Asheboro to visit her parents in a couple of weeks. Normally, I stay home in Fayetteville. However, if I could meet up with someone for a good day's fishing then I just might have an incentive to go. LOL Right now I'm looking at either the 10th or 17th of March. If you are interested e-mail me for more information at redneckdmnc(at)yahoo(dot)com.
Looking for a Fishing Partner

I'm an avid bass fisherman looking for a fishing partner in/around the Fayetteville area. I have a canoe which is fine for small lakes and ponds however, I would like to fish the bigger lakes in NC. Also I am interested in entering a few amature tournaments. Most are team tournaments so I could use a partner for that as well. I don't want to say that you need a boat but, you do. Anyway, if you're interested PM me and we can arrange a meeting or whatever.

Letter to the Governor Perdue regardiing Stripped Bass

This is an
> alarming downward trend that indicates there will be many fewer adult
> striped bass in the population in the coming years.
>
> The claimed decrease in the commercial catch of striped bass is just not
> true.~ Commercial quotas have been caught annually and have not
> decreased.~
> The given commercial catch numbers do not include the well-documented
> illegal harvest of stripers along the Atlantic coast.~ Even a modest
> estimate of the illegal harvest would materially revise the commercial
> catch
> upward.
>
> The total recreational catch of striped bass - numbers of fish caught and
> released as well as those kept or harvested - dropped by more than 50%
> between 2003 and 2009 while the commercial catch was essentially
> unchanged.~
>
> It is never a surprise when some commercial striped bass fishing advocates
> attempt to increase their catch beyond responsible levels; it has happened
> time and again in the history of commercial fishery management, in species
> after species. After a near total collapse in the striped bass population
> during the 1980s due to overfishing, a moratorium on most harvesting of
> this
> species caused striper's numbers to recover rapidly. Now it seems that we
> have forgotten the lesson we should have learned.
>
> This is not a time to increase the harvest of striped bass, commercially
> or
> recreationally.~ Even the National Marine Fisheries Service has voted
> against this commercial increase. Fishing mortality should be cut back
> and
> not expanded. When you consider that the average recreational fisherman on
> the East Coast was responsible for harvesting less than a single fish for
> the entire season, it is clear that the commercial catch should be
> decreased, not increased.~Please direct Louis Daniel to vote accordingly.
>
> Sincerely,
>
> Dean Phillips
> Topsail Island, NC
>
>
> _______________________________________________
> Cfrgnc mailing list
> Cfrgnc@listserv.nstelco.com
> http://listserv.nstelco.com/mailman/listinfo/cfrgnc
>

Bear Creek Lake

Hit up Bear Lake today in Tuskegee today. Not much luck got there too late and the bite was off. Just went to the Boat launch on Bear Lake Rd. Didn't know where else to go since I am new to this area. I tried Glenville Lake to but it was pretty dead. Didn't even seen any small Redeye's, or brim near the shore like I did at Bear Lake. Looks like you need a boat for both to be successful, or have a good knowledge of where Public Access is at the Lake to get some fish. Saw some nice Largemouth too, again at the boat ramp. Anyone know anywhere else on the lake that has Public bank access? Couldn't fish the cover because it was too thick to get through from the bank. Could have killed it in a boat though! Well hit me back with any info, I will really appreciate it!
