Fish. Oil. -- A year after BP oil spill, fish are still biting on Louisiana's Gulf Coast

On a trip last month to study the effects of the BP-TransOcean Deepwater Horizon oil spill last April, North I enjoyed my first-ever redfishing excursion on the Mississippi River delta on the Louisiana Gulf Coast.

And despite finding oil-spill remains still soaked into a few marshland areas, I found the Louisiana Delta fishing as hot as a crayfish boil. I met with numerous area locals, politicians, tourism officials and business owners, providing a unique look at the oil-spill area almost a year after the spill.
This video is Pt. 1 in a series. (Information about Pt. 2 in the series follows below the video player)

Pt. 2 in our "Fish. Oil" series will delve more into the ongoing clean-up efforts, including:
-- A tour of Bay Jimmy, where oil still oozes from the marsh soil under your feet
-- A tour of the fishing waters off of Grans Isle, LA, piloted by a fishing guide who worked after the spill as a Vessel of Opportunity for BP
-- A tour of a shrimp boat and interview with its captain, who is looking forward to getting back to shrimpin', but confides he is "nervous" about the future.
We'll also focus on coastal erosion, a concern that predates the oil spill and, according to many we interviewed, poses an even greater threat to Louisiana's sport-fishery.
* Disclosure: Louisiana Tourism Coastal Coalition funded the press junket Mr. Huff participated in.

In many ways, Jordan Paullo is your stereotypical NAFC member. He fishes hard, spends more days on the water than solid ground, and is constantly trying to figure out a better way to catch fish, whether it’s smallmouths and largemouths in a tournament or striped bass on the Connecticut River near his Coventry, Connecticut, home.
