Take The Pledge & Win Prizes
2010 Anglers' Legacy Sweepstakes
By: NAFC Staff

Online Rating: (8.5/10)

You Take The Pledge; Everybody Wins!

The Anglers’ Legacy Pledge is all about passing on a wonderful gift that someone once gave to you—the gift of a lifetime of fun, excitement, friendship and a deeper understanding of our natural world that comes through the sport of fishing.

More than 800,000 newcomers have been introduced to fishing since the Anglers’ Legacy program began in 2005. And now it’s time for you to be part of it. Take the Pledge to introduce just one new person to our amazing sport this year and pass along the infinite gift of immeasurable value that you’ve enjoyed for so long. You will change someone’s life.

What’s more, just by taking The Pledge, you’ll automatically become eligible to win the Anglers’ Legacy Sweepstakes. The NAFC once again partnered with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, Shimano, Rapala, Plano and Cabela’s to offer Club members a chance to win valuable gear and gift cards. Just by taking the Pledge, you could win one of three Plano FTO Elite Kevin VanDam Signature Series Boxes; one of three Shimano rod/reel combos consisting of a Shimano 2500 Spirex Reel and a 7’ Volateus Rod;  one of three Rapala Tackle Packs that include Rapala, Storm & Terminator lures, VMC hooks and Sufix fishing line; or, one of five $50 gift cards from Cabela’s.

When you take The Pledge, everybody wins.

How To Enter The 20010 NAF Anglers’ Legacy Sweepstakes

You can enter the North American Fisherman-Anglers’ Legacy Sweepstakes online in less than two minutes—it’s easy. The contest begins on Feb. 1, 2010.

Just visit the website and “Take The Pledge.” The NAFLEGACY1 "Partner Code" will already be filled in for you.

Winners will be randomly selected from among the NAFC members who took The Pledge.

No one took me fishing and I wish some one had. Learning it all on my own is not easy. I started out trying to teach my children as they were curious, now I am hooked. Been fishing for going on three years now, so far have introduced my mother, two children, father in law, and several kids down at the lake that come up and want to try. Only wish I knew more, that is why I like this site.

I have 4 brothers & 1 sister & my Dad taught us how to fish, it is memories of that time & him I will never forget. I've taught my older children now i'm teaching my 2 youngest ( 5 & 4 ) and they love it. My 5 year old practices casting into a 5 gal. bucket, & will lose her mind @ the taught of going fishing when I hook up to my boat. It's time I cherish with my family & hope they too carry these memories with them thru life.

I introduced my nephew to fishing last year and he is hooked. We fish trout streams and lakes and he loves it all. He was successful in the beginning and that got him excited. I think that's important to the beginner. In the beginning I had to wake him up, now he's waiting, pole in hand in the driveway.

I am 60 years this year and have a number of grandchildren that love to fish for Arctic Char, both in the fall and spring. Also one of them loves to go ice fishing during the early spring before the ice breaks in the Wulik River of northwest Alaska. We live in the coastal village of Kivalina, AK. It is that time of the year again. Days are getting longer and quite a bit warmer already.

My wife and I have been a fishing and camping 4H leaders for 4years, starting with 6 kids and has grown to 22 now. Since the group has grown we rely alot on donations, so no kids are left behind. I bought an old 10 foot boat and trolling motor, so the kids aren't crowded on the dock, and we can get more hooks in the water. The kids have a blast, and my wife and I have a blast watching these kids catch fish. I took my own personal oath 4 years ago, seeing the joy in these kids eyes when they catch their first fish is priceless, and a bigger reward is when a parent comes up to you and ask if they sould come also. One of our goals in our program is hooking up the parents with their kid or kids, and when this happens, priceless. Thanks to all of you who take the time to take kids fishing.

PEPE Bachand, my dear departed grandfather was the fihermans fisherman. Every summer he lived at the summer cottage and was out on the lake by 5am. Either you were up and ready to go or he left without you. He knew more "tricks" to catching fish than anyone else. Did you know a nightcrawler that you dip in beer and then spit on attracted the really big ones? I cant go fishing without seeing him sitting in that old wooden boat happier than anything. Miss you PEPE

My two boys absolutely LOVE to go fishing with dad. It doesn't matter the weather, the answer to my question of what to do for the weekend is always "dad, lets go fishing". Can't wait to take them off the creek bank and let em' loose on a lake or canal!

I have believed in children because they are our future. For the past 7 years I have chaired a Kid's Fishing Derby. The smallest number to enter was 50 kids. Each year it just keeps getting bigger this year there were over 80 entries. Also this year I place a copy of the the father day coupon the Angler's Legacy E-mailed. Our goals are to promote a family oriented activities involving parents, grandparents and most important the children. And what a better way than fishing. Already I'm getting ready for the 2009 Kids Fishing Derby and can't wait. Its great to see all the menbers of the NAFC supporting this program. And remember there is never a bad day of going fishing with a friend!

I had not fished for many years till about four years ago. My wife and I are very much into fitness and while out riding a trail one day we noticed fish jumping in a river. A few weeks later we went to the local Walmart and purchased combo rod and reel sets. I thought on our first fishing trip to the lake, I would show my wife how to bait the hook and cast. Well she knew how to do both and within a few seconds she had landed her first fish while I was still looking for a bite. She then told me her dad use to take her and her two sisters fishing when they were small. Till this day she usually out fishes me. We now bike into places with our backpacks loaded with gear to fish. The hardest part sometimes is biking out with our catch. By next year I will probably purchase a bike trailer to haul our gear in on. We are in our mid 50's and I hope to do this for many years to come.

I have a 14 ft. canoe and I love to go fishing with my family, but putting a 3 year old , a dog and my wife in it on the Delaware River can be scarey . My wife's girl friend has two young boys and there father doesn't do anything with them . A larger boat would mean we all could go fishing and be safe . I pledge to keep fishing in there live like my grandfather did with me when I was young. I just bought my daughter her first fishing pole " Dora Fishing Pole " .

I want to say a thank you to my dad. He was the one who had introduced me into fishing. I started out fishing with nothing but a wooden stick, a line, a hook and a worm. Many years have gone by and now I"m married to my lovely wife. She thinks I'm crazy spending my time fishing just about every weekend as often as I could. She thought I have gone NUTS spending 3 hours at Cabelas only at the fishing department. The only way for her to understood me is to following me and see why. My wife had never fished before in her life. I'm honored to be the one who introduced her. Now she's fishing with me. I even bought her two of her very own rod and reel. She still thinks I'm crazy but she enjoy fishing with me

I really enjoyed this artical. I would like to thank my Dad for teaching me how to fish. I'm 49 yrs. old now and am living in viginia now and am in a local fishing club on the eastern shore, we have tournaments every month, my wife thought i was nuts for going fishing every month esspecially in winter. That was until i taught her how to fish now shes hooked. I have taught all trhee of my kids how to fish when they were still in diapers. Any way my wife went fishing for her first time 2 yrs ago and last summer she went out in my canoe for the first time with her brand new fishing pole and she caught a very nice lg. mouth bass 6 or 7 lbs. it had a mouth on it I could put my fist in and i have a pretty big fist. Now shes hooked and wants to go on a fishing trip somewhere.. And a new boat would be nice because she doesnt under stand why i am hooked on my canoe. 14' rouge river......... best investment I ever made.. But I do have to say this would be a nice boat, and good luck to all and have a life time of good fishing. My kids and i enjoy going out when ever they have the chance to get out here. which hasn't been in a couple yrs. now. Hopefully this coming summer, I know that they would enjoy time with thier dad again on the water or off. Chuck

It is some- thing that I will have forever. We try to take as many of his friends as possible every time we go, just to see their faces lite up.

Fishing!!! I live in MN always have and always will, why? Fishing, and my Dad is to thank for all his patience teaching a stubborn little boy how to catch a fish. Now 27 I still remember the first time I caught a fish 24 years ago, I was at my uncles cabin down on the dock with my scooby doo fishing pole bobber fishing for crappies, man the thrill of watching my bobber go under theres nothing like it. For all of you like myself taking little kids fishings, "High Five". I have a tip I would like to share before I go that my Dad and uncles used on me for years, If at sometime or should I say when the one you are teaching isn't catching anything or wants to why they're not catching fish & what they are doing wrong simply tell them that they are holding their face wrong, as dumb as it sounds it does two things it keeps their mind off not catching fish and its sure is funny watching them make all those faces trying to figure it out. Thank you for reading my little story, Tight Lines To You All!!!

I am glad to help bring fishing to a country that is not nature friendly. I hope to bring a group to fishing so we can help out the earth.

Unfortunately you must be American to receive the decal. Too bad, because I love to fish and love to take both my family and my nieces fishing. I wish we had something like this in Canada.

I have twelve grand children and great grand children combined.I have introduced seven of these children to fishing and when the others are able to hold a fishing rod they too will be fishing with me.I have also introduced two nephews and two neighborhood children to fishing. If we do not take stock in the younger generation and teach them to fish along with good sportsmanship, ethics and conservation.Fishing will surely suffer. We must pass down our knowledge in order for the sport to survive.

If I could make a living from fishing that is what I would be doing. I love it. But there is something even greater when you take someone else fishing, especially kids, and they catch fish. I would much sooner watch and help others fish than fish myself. I thank God that he has given me the opportunity to share in his creation.

Wow Thanks Anglers Legacy, I just got back from my Grand Prize Trip I won for Angels Legacy. And I’m so glad I took the Pledge and I am a Ambassador of the Anglers legacy. Went to the boat show, Ate dinner at Don Shula’s Steak House, Thanks to Kurt and Kelly from the North American Fishing Club, and did the commercial for the WFN, what a trip. I feel so blessed and so very thank full for it all. I made some great contacts for my Annual fishing Derby here in Alliance Ohio Aug 9, that will make every kid a event they remember for the rest of their lives. My goal is to put a fishing pole and tackle in every kids hands that want to fish, I would like to hear from other Ambassador from different areas, so we all can hook up with kids and adults who have never fished before and all of the Ambassadors take someone in your area fishing. So if you know of a kid or are a kid or a adult that would like to go fishing the first time write me and Ill try to hook you up with someone in your area. Thanks Again, Anglers Legacy, NAFC, WFN. God Bless Kim Henderson or write kimethhenderson@yahoo.com

In 2008 I got together our local organizations and sponsored a kids fishing day at our local pond. We gave prizes, free hot dogs and sodas. We had 98 kids from ages 3 to 16 show up with their parents. What a ball they had. We plan to make this an annual event and have it on the free fishing weekend in Wisconsin whereas the parents can fish if they want to. It was a hugh sucess and have been soliciting for prizes for the kids since last year. We also run raffles for the parents. One of big attractions, it is a non-alcohol event. Lynn, Catfisherman

There are boudless advantages to teaching people how to fish, or at the least sharing in their experience. Many people have little or no opportunity because of certain health issues and an inability to have the personal attention available to them. But there is nothing more magical, to making someone feel better, by including them in a great day outdoors....

I've got three sons and of the three the two that can walk can probably fish with the best of 'em as well as out fish the rest of 'em......!

I was born & raised in Aztec, New Mexico. Used to go fishing with my Grandma & Grandpa when I was 6-7 yrs old. I am now 45, both my Grandparents are gone but I still love to fish. Year before last I got to take my oldest granddaughter fishing for her first time, she was 10 at the time. It was just going into fall and starting to cool off a bit outside so the bites were very slow. We only got 2 bites that afternoon, or should I say SHE got 2 bites!! lol She caught her first blue gill but it got away just as she got it to the bank. She was so excited!! Every time she comes over now she wants to know if we are going to go fishing!

My husband introduced me to fishing 26 years ago, I'm quite good at it now, beat him most of the time with the big ones. We have help hundreds of people to fish, how to look at the conditions we are facing and fish to it not against it. We have fished on piers on the Texas Gulf and Galveston Bay area. I have 3 nephews, 2 great nephews, 2 sons, and 2 grandsons, even a step daughter from a previous marriage that we have shown the joys of fishing, plus friends along the way, we know that pledge, we live it.

I started fishing for largemouth bass & other species when I was about 2 years old with my Dad & his father in our farm pond in the Pocono Mts. of PA. First cast I caught a 2lb 14oz. bass & I was hooked! Now that I'm almost 51 I've been taking my son since he was 2 & he wants to go everyday (the kid can cast & knows his patterns due to NAFC magazines & from TV fishing shows which is ALL he watches!)! My 2 year old daughter will be going this year (I wish I could get their Mom to try it but 2 out of 3 isn't bad!)! Last year I took over 20 kids on separate occasions to my brother-in-law's pond & to a couple of local streams & lakes. Sometimes I took their Dad's too! None of them had ever fished. Now they all do & they've all gone out & bought their own tackle & we're scheduling some weekend trips this season. Thanks to my Grandfather teaching me & for my Mom & Dad for taking me out when I was younger, I have developed a love for everything outdoors & related to fishing (including a degree in Marine Biological Engineering). I was notified as one of the winners of this contest in February of this year & was supposed to go to Miami for the boat show & to be on a 30 second commercial but I couldn't get off call from work (DOH!) & had to forfeit the trip which totally bummed me out especially, since no one would take my on call & one of the two people who could've fishes but it was Valentine's weekend so I can't get that upset! This year I plan on taking my boy's kindergarten classes & their friends (over 40 kids) out fishing on various weekends so I can get them into this great pastime & sport! Wish me luck! Hopefully, next Angler's Legacy contest, I can win some gear so I don't have to cancel another trip & I can have it for the little kids to use on our ventures! Happy fishing everyone! Keep it going & have fun! That's what it is all about!

Last year I took my nephew out fishing with my new electric Minnkota. It wasn't long we had caught a few nice bass. We decided to try another spot with different lures. I caught several fish while he tried without success. He asked me if I had another lure like the one I was using and I said no but he could look in the tackle box if he wanted to change the lure he was using. Several minutes later he had the one he figured would cacth the big one. Three casts later he hooks on to the biggests Nothren Pike I have ever seen let alone catch(22lbs), Needless to say he was the happiest kid ever. I,ve become his fishing buddy for life.

I was taught by my father and grandfather when i was about 5. I have literally fished all my life and I have attempted to teach one daughter who is now a teenager with a different set of priorities. My younger daughter who is 6 cant get enough and neither can I. My son who is 3 weeks old still has some time, but in due time he will be on the trolling motor. I don't see how life can get any better than taking your kids down to a pond and teaching them the beauty of nature, conservation, and how to catch daddy's bait!

Last year i taught my co worker,And his wife to fish for the fist time! They are both hooked on fishing now! Everything from bluegill, large mouthed black bass, chain pickerel, crappie, perch. From the local state pond's and lake's.Bronze small mouth from the river. Also carp and rock bass! This year my 5 year old daughter and my significant other of 8 years. Plan on going on a boat we just bought this year. It need's some work but i think we can have it going by this summer! It will be the first time fishing for my daughter and my significant other who is going to be 30 years old this summer! After i have the boat going,I know i will be teaching people to fish all the time! Thank you!!!! Dad for giving me the most special gift of all.And to me that gift was.The fist time we ever went fishing and,The time you gave to me and wisdom of the art of angling you bestowed a pound me! Thank you,May you all have a great time on the water,I know i will!!

I grew up in Mentor on the Lake, Ohio. Its just what you would probably imagine. Small town, Mentor Beach Park, up the street, the beach, and the parades on Holodays. Anyways, My Mom taught me how to fish when I was like 3 years old. Well thats when she started taking me anyways. I remember going to the peir in Farport Harbor, walking through all the big piles, rock, sand, salt, etc. carrying poles, chairs, tackel, and cooler. When I was 7, we had a 17ft boat, w/a 55hp., new fishing adventure. My Mom taught me how to catch pearch off the boat, it was differant from catching the same fish at the wall. I would love to share my fish storys and make new ones. Its the BEST! I love to fish, and would like to share my exsperiance.

I have been fishing since I was 5 I'm 40 now . I took my 6 and 8 year old sons on there first real boat trip a month ago.Man I tell you they had a blast. The oldest caught the most fish the youngest caught the biggest.Three months earlier I took my 13 year old daughter on her first ocean trip.We got about 5 miles out of the harbor she started getting sea sick .I asked her if she wanted to turn back she said no I want to fish. I gave her some bomine 30 minutes later she felt fine and fished the rest of the day. I was verry proud of her.

Just like Mikelap, I'm from McKeesport, Pa., but I live in Houston now. There doesn't seem to be much fishing down here, so I'm going back to Nebraska this spring for a long needed fishing vacation.

I havebeen fishing since childhood, am now 68,retired and still cannot hardly wait for walleye season to open every year. By being a fishing tackle rep for 34 years, and putting on numerous take a kid fishing seminars several hundred kids have been introduced to fishing. Also both of my granddaughters, and all of my nieces and nephews have been introduced by both me and my wife to fishing. I cannot take the summer heat any more, so most of my fishing is done in early Spring, late Autumn, and early Fall. We worked New Mexico for six years, put on several kids promotions, and introduced several dealers to downrigger fishing during our tenure out West. We will make contact with the handicap organization, and find a parent, and child to take fishing this Spring.

I live in Northeast Wyoming, and I have been fishing for 40 years! I am a Trophy Life Member of the North American Fishing Club, since (04) I am also a Trophy Life Member of the North American Hunting Club, since (05) I love the outdoors and fishing in particular. I have introduced my children and many, many others to fishing and intend to introduce many more! I get great pleasure in seeing the look on some one's face when they catch their first fish ever. Fishing: It's not just a pass time, it's a passion! Rusty

I have a five year old son who so far knows four fish species just by looking at them and whom i have been taking fishing with me since he was three. We read the North American fishing Magazine together all the time. He gets so excited when i tell him i got new one in the mail. Now that i have my own boat i have been taking people out on Lake Erie for some fun time walleye fishing and few here and there are fishing for there first time. It is my passion for fishing that makes all this a great experience.

My Father and I started a fishing club, called The Biggest Fish Of Your Life Club. We regularly take children who have yet to experience fishing and show them how to fish. We give them certificates, a t-shirt, a picture of the fish. We have a few sponsors who help with fishing gear and snacks for the kids. It is a great time for all, but the biggest joy is too see a child learn something new and to share in the excitement of seeing them catch their first fish. We continually take new children. Some of the children who have visited once often return to fish again. We have taken over 100 children in the last five years. Our first outing this year will be this Sunday May 17, 2009.

I have a teenage stepson that always thought I was crazy to get up at 4:30 am to go fishing on my day off on the weekend. I tried to explain to him the thought of hooking a largemouth starts in your head on Friday afternoon while in work for someone else. But Saturday is my time and the pleasure of hooking that first fish just can't be satisfied unless you get up early and get out there. I convinced him to come with me one early morning and listened to hin groan all the way to the lake. After he caught his first bass he looked at me and said "I get it now". We have had many more enjoyable days out there and hope to have many more. 'Happy Fishing' "Big Daddy"

....FISHING!.... need i say more ... just the word alone says good time! ... its the best remedy for anything that the situation calls for. And as this story will explain one of the best pick-up lines to use..:) ... My first date with a girl i fell in love at first sight was a fishing trip...She was the most beautiful women I'd have ever seen. I thought she was WAY OUT OF MY LEAGUE! But i approched her anyway .....I strolled over all casual and cool, said she had the most "beautiful eye's i had ever seen", (didnt get much reaction from that line) So, i asked "could I take you out sometime"?, and she thought for a min. and said "sure, but,! only if its something original and interesting that I have never done before on a first date"... i fealt like she was setting me up to fail under the pressure. . . "no dinner and a movie crap" she said ... so I thought a minute ...hmmm ....I thought to myself? "How am I gunna get this girl to go out with me".?.?.? I was so nervouse standing there in front of this beautiful girl as she stared at me. . . . so, i said, with out hardly thinking about the fact that she didnt seem like the kinda girl that like'd fishing.... "how about we go fishing tommoro morning"? .....she looked at me confused for a second, smile'd and said, "yeah","that sounds fun"... :)I COULDNT BELIVE IT!!!! ... it worked to my surprise .... SO... anyway ... The fishing trip went great .... had a few more dates after that, and fell in love with each other, we are currently engaged after being together for 8 months and things have been great..... all thanks to to the simple pleasure of fishing..... Oh, by the way, she caught the biggest fish that day..... 18 1/2 " small mouth bass, beautiful fish! ....:-)

My favorite thing about fishing is getting back to nature, such as the sound of the water and watching the abundent wildlife that surrounds ther places I fish such as the elk, bear and the infamous cougars as well as all the dear that we see when we leave the holes to go back home. I feel that it's a good education for the kids as well as all the adults that go with us. We also enjoy our salt water fishing trips as well and the grey whale and all the amendities add more fun to the trip as many first timers haven't been so close to sea giants in their lives. Kids and adults both that catch fish for their first time is the biggest pleasure for me. Fishing is the biggest pleasure for me and has been for years. My favorite saying if the keys are gone I've gone fishing. Even with todays economic bad times fishing is a way to forget it all and the catches are abundent to us all. Well see ya time to go fishing!!!!!!

There is nothing as exciting as to watch a child catch their first fish! This I did the other day when I took a friend of mines nine year old son fishing the other day. I have often taking his children fishing and enjoyed every moment of it. I did the same with my son and would have taken my four daughters if they were interested. My children are grown but I still enjoy teaching other the art of fishing;young or old fishing is my favorite sport, especially Bass fishing. Summit Lake State park near New Castle,In. is a favorite... but anywhere there is water there lies a potential fishing hole. Good luck to all!

I thought I had seen it all in my lifetime being a founding member of the "been there, done that" club, but I was wrong. Recently I learned there is no light on earth brighter than the smile on the face of a kid pulling his first fish out of the water.

I have recently been around my girlfriend's stepbrother, and he had never been fishing. His parents divorced when he was young, and his dad didn't do very much with him, because he isn't really a big out door person, so i took him out to get some supplies and bought him a few items so i could get him excited about fishing, and now every time I'm over at his house. He always wants to go fishing.

I started fishing at the age of 3 and guess who taught me, My mom....hahaha...who would ever thought it would be my mom instead of dad. Now since I experienced fishing and the techniques in catching them I started teaching my little brother, sister, cousins, and even my girlfriend. All of them love fishing now because they get excited when it comes to it. We mostly do saltwater fishing in the San Francisco Bay, but the also love to fishing in the lakes, reservoirs, and also the delta. Since my dad owns a Bait and Tackle Shop I've taught many people and got many people excited about fishing. Also I told and showed a lot of tips and techniques to new fishermen who is new to the sport.

I got on line the other night. Started looking to find some fishing poles mine were well used when I got them and over the past 12 years they have really had it! I came across this site, I was hooked. And I plan to remain a member for the rest of my life.Thank You NFC for being here. And to all of you members, Thanks for all your tips, tricks and comments! I have learned alot and lost alot of sleep the first night. I purchased at a garage sale an old rod and reel for one whole quarter. I got my licence, purchased a mickey mouse pole for my at the time 3 yr old grand daughter. That little pole is quite worn out now but hangs on my wall along with pictures of about eight different kids holding that pole with all sizes of perch, bass and catfish. First Catches! In a couple of weeks my great neice will be up with her youngest daughter (2 yrs) and a great nephew has a son also 2 years that I will be takeing out to catch their first. Seems the parents are excited because I took them and now their kids. I have taken as many as eight kids at a time I Love it. I also have taken a wheelchair bound 80 year old lady. She hadn't been since her husband passed 25 years ago. It is awesome!

I am only twelve and I have already taught 2 girls and my brother to come to love fishing. I wish more people in the world would fish and notice what they are missing. It is a great experience catching a fish even when you have caught hundreds of them. I love to go out fishing even when I do not catch anything, it is nice to just watch fish jump and think of more ways to improve. I want to introduce more people to fishing throughout my life. ><>Jake<><
