    • stumpknocker1I use a 3/0 bronze circle hook and a homemade weight. The method I most often use for catfishing is when possible turn my boat sideways, and drift with the current and/or wind, using a drift bag to slow the boat as well as help keep it drifting strait. I use 6 to 8 poles with the lines all staggered in distance with all lines on the bottom. The way I rig my poles I make a homemade drift weight out of small nylon cord and 1/4" slingshot ammo. I cut the nylon cord about 7 or 8 inches long and remove the inner cord leaving only the braided external cord. I melt one end of the cord to seal it then I put 17 of the slingshot ammos inside the casing. After they're inside I press them together tight and melt to othe end of the casing tight against the last shot. once this is done I attach a #7 barrel swivel that has a chip on one end to the weight just below one of the melted ends. I then tie the line from my rod to the loop in the barrel swivel closest to the clip end I have through the weight. I then attach about a 8 to 10 inch peice of line to the other end of the barrel swivel. I then place a non-weighted small torpedo cork on the leader line and then tie my circle hook on. I pull the cork down to about 2 to 3" inches above the hook. By placing the cork on the leader between the weight and the hook it keeps the hook off the bottom enough to avoid getting hung on trash (most the time) the way the weight is made also helps prevent hangups. For bait I mainly use cut gizzard shad, but I also use live brim and other types of cut bait like mullet or white bass. Most the time I catch a lot of fish this way, of course like any other methods somedays are better than others. Thats why its called fishing and not catching :)

    • Porterhouse1989that sounds like a great rig sounds like u wont get stuck much i usually use a 3/o circle as well on a leader tight lineing it with a 2 1/2 oz. bank sinker ill mostly cut medium size blugill or shad up as bait i fish next to a grain bin thats out in the ohio river it spills corn into the river sometimes so its like chuming the waters but itll bring the big cats in from the channel n deeper holes btw thanks for the input good to see activity in the group

  • bshildn01 Hi. I live in GA, northeast of Atlanta. Plan to retire this fall, and will have more tome to fish then. I grew up in southern PA, on the MD line, so I used to catch lots of big carp in the Potomac. Looking for places nearby -- other than pay lakes -- where I can catch some carp. I like all kinds of fishing, but don't get around so well any more, so most of my fishing is sitting on the bank, waiting for carp to bite. Anyone in my area interested in a sometimes fishing partner?

    • stumpknocker1I have been to Lake Weiss over in Alabama and caught some really large carp. Also if you want to stay in Ga try going to Fort Yargo State Park in Winder Ga. If you go up to where the main rive channel commes into the lake early in the morning the carp seem the be swimming on top of each other right next to the bank. The water is really shallow in there and there is some stumps so be careful. I would advise using only your trolling motor to navigate around in this area if you have one.
