    • duck68Bass season is open all year in NY, you just can't keep them until third saturday in june. There is one exception, the early season on Lake Erie. South of the Peace Bridge you can keep bass over 15 inches, and only use artiificial baits to catch them. I think the limit on the early season is one fish a day.

  • duck68 Went out today tried three spots, saw a lot of fish but didn't conect until the third spot. Went to a small marina on the upper niagara river, my wife got a 9" large mouth, I coaxed a 15" large mouth of it's bed. Only two fish today, but I never do real good from shore and I can't wait to get my boat out. The boat is the weekend project, clean it out check over safety equipment and motor, charge battery. Should be ready by memorial weekend, then I can hit my real spots all over the river. Good luck, and good fishing........Duck

    • duck68Thanks for the welcome, I live in N. Tonawanda right between two of the greatest places to fish! I fish both lakes, but mostly the upper Niagara river. We get smallmouth, largemouth, muskie, the whole spectrum. If the fish aren't active enough on the river I can run up to Lake Erie in 1/2 an hour and be fishing off the break walls around Buffalo Harbor or run out in the lake and fish the reefs etc. I generally stay out of Canadian water, because the permit is expenseive, so a good GPS is important. Ocasionaly I'll head up to lake Ontario for some salmon action. I haven't caught many but they are fun to wrestle with! So, if we can catch up on the river sometime let me know, Duck68

  • jfish17 We have been KILLING the bass off the Erie Canal at Ellicott Creek Park. They are hitting almost everything!
    • duck68The water temp is just right for reaction bites from spawning fish, and that is one of the spawning beds in the canal. It's also good fishing there for pike later in the summer, so that's a good spot all season. If I'm shore fishing that's one of the regular spots to fish. Sounds like you guys had a blast over there, try Ellicott Creek in the park by the old wooden bridge. It's down in the gully by the park entrance off niagara falls blvd. throw a 3" white twister tail grub. Be warned, along shore fish with rod tip up, as there are many snags close to shore. Gooduck, and good fishing..Duck68

      10:16 AM May 25
    • duck68We catch and release also. Bass is now open in NY all year, with some exclusions in the central NY area. Just for catch and release, early season on Lake Erie opens in May, one fish 15 inches or larger a day. South of peace bridge only and artificial baits only..
