  • brimreaper Hello. Live in Woodbridge, VA about 25 miles south of DC. Love to gil and crappie fish. Gils in my area lack shoulders and size! Have to west Of Richmond to get into 8-9" gils and 10-11" redears. Actually get most of gils trolling in the Spring to early summer. Fish a 2" Creme tri color swirl tail jig tipped with a crappie nibble. Also use lots of hair jigs and popeyes. Do some fly fishing - love those poppers. Headed to Dallas TX for a tenative fishing trip for crappie and gils - 8 - 15 MAR. Anyone who lives in that area and is available let me konw - would love to hook-up.

    • brimreaperYou are a lucky man to have that quality fishing hole. Lived in N VA for past 20 years on haven't found lakes yet where you can consistently catch nice slabs, bluegills, or shell crackers. A new fishing buddy has taken me to his honey hole on Potomac River and we catch some slabs up to 14". On my bucket list is the goal fo catching a limit of 25 crappie that are either 1 lb or 12". Have a tenative trip planned to Dallas, TX to see if I can do that. Another buddy's brother lives ther and he has shown me some slabs.... I fish jigs mostly, and usually jig, long line, or troll in Spring. Don't fish once water temps hit 75 - fish become to soft for eating. My favorite lure is a 1/32 round jig with a 2 " Creame tri colored twister tail in blue/black. Catcgh lots of 8" gils on that combo too.
