 | Michigan Hard Water Fishing Have not had a chance to get on the site in the past week, but I do have a fishing report. I took last friday off so that I could have Island lake in a low pressure situation. You will not beleave this, I don't beleave it and I lived it, I came 7 perch shy of a complete limit of every fish possible. I got to the park when it opened and caught well over 100 fish, my keepers were 2 pike , 3 eyes, 25 gills, and 33 perch, it was a once and a life time day, and I nearly feed the entire bulding. Not a single keeper the rest of the weekend, good thing I took friday off. I have seen people out on kent lake the past few days, so the ice must have survied. If you are looking for ice you may want to try oakland and livingston counties, they have a lot of small lakes with size and numbers to choose from. about 5 months ago | | |

 | Michigan Hard Water Fishing REDEMPTION, a day after stricking out on Trout Lake, I crushed it. Went out Monday morning and caugh seven nice perch in 50 foot of water on a tip up and a limit of 25 eater gills coming on spikes with a north land blue mooska jig on a straight line, but the biggest gills came on a blue and glow ice worm with a st. croix spinning combo. Looks like it will be warm this week, but will be below freezing all next week, which works out, the ultimate fishing show is in town thi weekend. about 6 months ago | | SteellordGonna be at the show probably late Friday after work.

 | Michigan Hard Water Fishing It looks like trout lake has been un touched, thinking about checking it out in the morning. That lake gave up a master angler perch this year, and host a lot of big gills. A warm up is coming, have to get it in while I can. about 6 months ago | | |

 | Michigan Hard Water Fishing First ice is here. I have fished Spring Mill Pond, caught some a dozen nice crappies and a few decent gills, went to Kent Lake, a few small gills, and I fished Island Lake on my birth day and caught 16 gills all between 8 and 9 and 8 perch dinner size perch and a few 6 inchers that I put on tip ups and resulted in a 29 inch pike. I have been getting numbers on wax worm, but size on soft plastics. I have caught most of my fish on straight lines, the clam spooler is my favorite ro so far this year, it forces you to let your line out slow, let out a couple pulls then jig for a minuite or two and repeat. Tread carefully the ice is ranging 2-4 inchs. about 6 months ago | | |

 | rseltz Hi all, I am living in ohio now but I am a Michigander at heart, I have family in the Traverse City area and have propety on the northern east side of the state in AuSable Twp. I don't get up as often as I use to but hope to be in Michigan the end of January. Last year the ice was only barely safe and only was out one day. Good Luck to all and be safe! I have fallen through its not fun. about 6 months ago | | buckeyestarkey14Good luck down there. I just moved to Michigan from the Columbus area. Decent fishing down there but no where near spectacular.

 | Steellord Went and scouted a couple spots on Lake St. Clair and it's looking good in the canals. As long as the temps stay the way they are now we should be out there in another week or so. about 6 months ago | | |

Welcome jdetrick about 6 months ago jdetrickbeen ready since last year with no ice this year I will try to fish as much as I can until ice-out...
SteellordWelcome to the the group, i live in Roseville and fish Lake St. Clair year round. I'm really praying for ice this year. We need it not only for ice fishing, but also for maintaining water levels in the lake which are nearing record lows. In the winter I usually fish the Selfridge launch area, Metro Daysail, or Crocker launch. Maybe we can meet up out there this year.

 | Michigan Hard Water Fishing The forcast for next week is looking good for next week, temps ranging from the high 20's to the low 30's, and plenty of wind, ICE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. Time to start spooling reels and pick up a few more jigs and tip up rigs. about 6 months ago | | |

 | Michigan Hard Water Fishing Hey Steellord, the weather reports are starting to look pretty good for guys like us. I am thinking about fishing the hamlin hookers ice tournie in febuary, but I hope we get some good ice in your neck of th the woods, I've never fished Lake St. Clare but would like to give it a try, maybe I will see there and we can teach each other a thing or two about catching them through the ice. about 7 months ago | | SteellordSounds good man. If we don't get ice here soon my only chance might be at Higgins Lake in March.
jjones84With the winters we had over the past couple of years, you have to be willing to travel. When I go up north I usally hit up Ludington, Manistee, Baldwin, Cadilac, and all spots in between. Let me know, I might have to extend my search pattern.

 | Michigan Hard Water Fishing Went to cabela's for the ice fishing classic and met a couple of pros, both local guys. I learned a lot, and found out what I have been doing wrong. Wayne a pro from northland tsckle uses nylon sewing thread instead of ice line. never heard of that and plan on trying it. The guy from ice team, do not remember his first name but I think his last name was Mason, taught me about using straight lines and told me that a flasher is a better way to go over a shodown. I learned alot, got a few new toys, am now planning on fishing my first ice fishing tournament, and only spent $160, which is not all that bad for me when it comes to fishing. My only regret is that I did not stand in line for a elk burger. If you have a chance to atend something then take advantage of it, you never know enough, there are always new things to learn about fishing. about 7 months ago | | SteellordCongrats on the new knowledge and the new toys. I'm lucky enough to leave near a tackle shop owned by an NAIFC fisherman and he has given me lots of tips and shown me some new techniques to try. Can't wait for ice to form to give them a try.
jjones84The name of the guy from ice team was Chuck Mason, he said he will be at the ultimate fishing show repping franks, he is a good guy to meet, very willing to share his knowledge.
