  • Thomas Ryan I almost got ate by a gator. No shit, there I was, fishing in the inlet, minding my own business, and then the fish started jumping more frequently [red flag!]. Moments later, I hear a minute disruption in the water, saw an eyeball at the waterline, and then watched it disappear. Seconds later, I saw another eyeball protruding from the waterline, only much closer. "Oh shit! I know what that is!" I said aloud to no one as I scrambled backwards out of the shin deep water while reeling my line in like a crack addict. The beast was about 10 meters away when it surfaced enough for me to see part of his body [about the size of a large dining room table], I grabbed my tackle box [FYI, always keep your tackle box closed. Been doing that ever since I learned to fish years ago] and scurried up to the road. Close call...That's life in Florida...gotta love it. :-)

  • birdsnest99 Fishing near Memphis, but in Arkansas in an oxbow off the Miss. river, few crappie, but slayed large bluegill. Brought back about 12 pounds of fillets!! And they were just beginning to spawn by the looks of the eggs.

  • Crappie Catchers OK, we just finished our 1st Tropical Storm of the season, and the rains should be about over. Meaning, I'm going fishing at the Inlet in the morning. Going for Flounder. Last time I went, I lost my hook, line and sinker to I don' t know what. I was strong, and feisty. Wish me luck.

  • crappiedaze Just a few crappie thoughts . Things that belong in the back of any ones truck : 10 ft jon boat , battery and 30 lb trolling motor , 2 - 8ft trolling/jigging rods 1- 4 1/2 ft ugly stick for dock shooting , net with extendable handle . The need for a net became obvious to me when i figured out that a 275 lb man should NOT lean over the side of a 10 ft jon boat . If any one can think of what i missed please post . Snacks and drinks are in the cooler in back seat of truck by the way .

    • birdsnest99A urinal bottle from the hospital, with the top glued down and the bottom cut off makes a great "reliever", especially in such small boats, hard to stand up & pee if in populated area!
