  • grndmstrb Heading over to Silver Lake (SW. WA) for some freshwater fun, has anyone fish it lately? We have got to stock up on some freshwater fish Salmon and Halibut are great but need some variety. I hope the Yellow Perch and Crappy are hitting. We usually fish the lake during the week then head an hr south to the Columbia River for Sturgeon on Fri. and Sat then come back to the lake.

  • YellowBear The WDFW told us last year that they were going to work on the warmwater fishery in Wash. What has been done? The limits have been increased on Smallmouth. The Pike have been eradicated in the Pend Orellie. A bounty is being placed on Walleye in the Spokane arm. We spend thousands every year to keep our Trout hatcheries going but only use 1/10th of our only warmwater hatchery for a hybrid program. Some of the best Walleye waters in the country have been lost. Our panfish populations are a fraction of what they once were. What can we expect in the future?

    • HossinonimusIt is a little frustrating knowing the state kills off lakes filled with spiney ray every few years to "rehabilitate" the lake. How many times are we going to plant trout in a lake that nobody fishes, the trout don't survive in anyway and are naturally repopulated with bass, sunfish, etc every couple years. It appears to me that money would be better used somewhere else?? I'm with you YellowBear. The state needs to stop fighting mother nature and use some of that wasted money to help her out a little bit.

    • YellowBearI have been talking with the WDFW about our Walleye population.
I am saying the big fish are all but gone.
The WDFW says that is not so, what do you think?

    • bugsmasher49We are seeing more and more smaller fish and the state knows it. Why do you suppose they lowered the size limits on walleye a few years ago? I have seen way to many big adult females taken during the spawn as well rather than released. How long can a fishery survive when all the big healthy females are being caught and kept. I like my walleye too but there is a time and a place to keep them. practice selective harvest!

    • YellowBearHow you been Smasher? hope all is well up in your neck of the woods.
The latest jab in the eye for our warm water species by the WDFW,
They propose to lift the limits on Bass and Walleye in the Columbia and the Snake and conecting tributaries.
Bass - no daily limit no more than three over 15 inches.
Walleye - no daily limit no more than one over 24 inches.
Channel Cats - no daily limit no size limit.

    • grndmstrbGet a book called "Washington Fishing" by Terry Rudnick, in my apinion it is the bible for finding fishing spots in WA. I was able to find it on Amazon.com. Although it is in its 3d addition and first released in 1996 it still has great info on lakes and the species in each lake, also has directions to the lakes and launch ramps.

  • aplummer Hey everyone! I have a trip planned to go out to Lake Chelan in a couple weeks, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for fishing from shore over there. Is anyone familiar with that area?
    • proberAll I personally can recommend is the usual advice of "talk to them at the local bait store" variety. I called ahead and talked to a few of those that operate guide services there. I found them through the chamber of commerce. Most were quite willing to share information/tips. I'd pass along phone numbers but it was a few years ago and I don't have them handy. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK! I'm sure it will be a fun trip!

  • YellowBear Fished Sprague this past Sat, we tried to find some spiny rays. We had two boats and four anglers. Nothing but Trout. Hit Soda for a few hours Sunday and got 5 good Smallmouth. Talked to some friends in Spokane and it seems the WDFW Pike eradication project in the Pend Orellie has been a success.

  • prober Well howdy! I'm new to the group but willing to grow. I've joined because I'm looking to expand my network of friends/fellow fisher(persons) and thought this should be a good way to do that. I'll be trying to check in here now and then to see what's going on. Thanks for having me and feel free to contact me if you'd like. I'm in the Port Orchard area by the way...

    • YellowBearI got a couple of reports from Potholes this week and there are a few Walleye starting to show up.

Your steering being backwards might make a good anti theft devise, lol.

    • proberWell that's an encouraging report. I think I saw a report on www.washingtonlakes.com that was similar. I hadn't thought about the deterrent factor of my steering. Maybe I should put it back on backwards! LOL
