  • dsmith61 I live outside Livingston. Fish Lakes Livingston, Rayburn, and occasionally Toledo Bend. Recently started fishing Kurth, a small lake north of Lufkin which is supposed to have some really big bass, my brother and I seem to be able to catch on 5 or 6 pounder there every time we go but that on fish is about it each trip. all our largemouth are catch and release, if we want some to eat we target whitebass at Livingston. I have a 74 19.5ft champion and my brother has a 2009 champion 210. We fish the Polk cty and Cleveland bass club tournaments.

    • bassman210There is a great bass fishing lake in Bastrop, Tx. Bastrop State park has camping and hiking as well. It's a nice park and also offers Cabins with A/C for those hot days.

  • mgreen9 I grew up fishing stock ponds, thought I knew how to fish. Where I live now (Waxahachie, Tx), I have no access to stock ponds, and lake fishing is a different game. Guess that makes me a beginner, I need some help. Bought a small jon boat a couple of years ago, haven't done very well on the local lakes.

    • bassman210Big lakes can be simiilar to small ponds. I guess that you like to fish shallow since you feel comfortable with pond fishing? If so use your jon boat to work the bank and hit visible structure like lay downs and docks. hope this helpes out.
