  • Scratch85 jpicou, how was the fishing tournament at Shakamk? I went to Shakamak late Sunday morning. The catching was slow but I did end up with one that I measured at 18 1/4".

    • jpicouTypical shakamak i caught a few,but for that place you catch tons of small ones, and every so often you catch one thats over fifteen. I had to throw most mine back cause of that slot limit they have, frustrating! Whats even worse i had a U.S.A. Bassin tournament at bass lake sat. morning caught 17 and not a one i could weigh in. I had a bad weekend tournament fishing but...at least i did catch something i guess could have been worse. I fished the Kickapoo lake.

    • Scratch85At least you were catching fish! For what it's worth, the bigger one I caught was in about 10" of water up against the bank, under a root wad, on the shady east side of a point. I also fished Kickapoo.

    • Scratch85To clarify, I mean the east side of the lake, not the point itself.

    • jpicouI got a tourney there again coming up so i was thinking bout going there again 2day an seeing if i could figure something out. I struggle there more than anywhere else. awful damnm hot tho! Was that your first time there?
      9:52 AM July 11
    • Scratch85That was my first time there. I couldn't sleep Sunday morning and just decided to go fishing. I had been thinking about Shakamak and the clear water thing since you had mentioned it. Seemed like a good chance to see what the conditions were. I didn't arrive until about 9:00am local time and was gone by noon. Pretty hot.

I would think evening would be very hard to fish there. When the sun hits that lake surely all the fish go hide and stay hidden until dusk.

    • jpicouI dont think they ever come out there! lol. However im not a big crappie fisher ,but my friend is we went there rite before they started to spawn an just absolutely tore it up. most fish i hadever caught in one day!

  • jesjr528 Going to Lake Summit this Sunday bright and early. should be there around 8 am, any suggestions for good blue gill or bass areas anyone wishes to share? Taking my Brother in law, his first time there, would hate for us to catch nothing all day... Open for ideas.

    • jesjr528where is Boggs Lake
      3:36 PM July 07
    • jpicouIt's in Davies County just north of Loogootee Indiana, On highway 231.

    • jpicouWe caught around 8 nice bass. two well over 5lbs. In the U.S.A. Bassin tournament held there this year already bass were caught around 8lbs or better. We used red shad rubber worms, and fished around falling trees.
      3:48 PM July 07
    • jpicouAlso if you can find the brush piles in Boggs Lake it can be a great day! You maynot catch large numbers of bass, but typicaly they'll be chunkers.

    • heavyhitter34I'm new to this group and was just reading some of the posts. I live up in North Central Indiana but i've been to West Boggs before. It's been many years ago right after it was restocked around 2001 i think. But anways it had some killer gills in it and tons of bass that were small. I would love to go back n try to catch some of those bigger bass now.
