  • viking54 got the sharpener they sent last Saturday and im impressed with it actually. It's small size makes it fit in the tackle bag or a small box also had a hook sharpener and a honing stone. used on one of my old fillet knives and it brought it back pretty good. maybe the trick to get to test is to visit the site more often cause thats really all i've done

  • viking54 hey man there's not much river water left to go walleye fishing (which is what we usually fish for in the fall). So hopefully red rock lake and a few sandpits i know of are ready to yield up some descent wally's. Catfishing is still good at red rock

  • burbot Hello fellow Iowans. I haven't been on the NAFC site for a long while and was surprised to find this, glad to have some serious fisherman to talk with. I am in the same boat as y'all are, not much water to play in here. The Wapsi is flowing below it's normal, the DNR posted it at 7%. Takes the fun out of trying to find where the fish are holding, just find the holes and there they are. A few smallies still inhabit the shallows but the bigger ones are staying deeper. The carp are appealing to me, I can see them working the shallower water and I think they would be fun on my fly rod. I don't eat them but they are fighters and give a good scrap, especially on lighter gear. Let me hear from y'all, I'm in the Anamosa area.

    • viking54seems like most ppl join or maybe post for a few days and then they just dont come back...im down in jasper county about 18 miles from red rock. haven't had much luck since june but fall is around the corner and im looking to nail some nice walleyes

    • burbotThe fishing has been slow all over this summer due to the low water levels i'm thinking. I've heard good things about Red rock and would like to give it a try some time. With the fall approaching the lake there should turn over and that usually triggers the better bite. I would like to try the coralville res and lake Mcbride in this area. Sold my boat & motor a couple of years ago and that makes it difficult to get on the water unless one of my buddies is going so I just wait for the call. If the invites don't pick up I may be forced to get another boat. I'll check in tomorrow eve to see if anyone in in here and wants to chat.
