Hi I have a 2001 Tracker Merc. 50 HP. When I bought it, the spark plugs were NGK radio suppression plugs BPZ8H-N-10 at $10 each. The standard plug is BP8H-N-10 at $3 each. Can I use the standard? Thanks

It won't affect the way the boat runs, but may raise hell with your electronics and those of anyone near you while your motor is running. Could make you very unpopular on the water. With a motor that new, you should only need to repalce the plugs every 3-4 yrs. How much will you save on an annual basis? Tom

Tom's right.....your motor would run on standard plugs but could cause harm to other systems and or electronics your using.. heres a link to the NGK faq on resistor plugs that might help  http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_support/spark_plugs/faqs/faqresistor.asp?mode=nml

CF: Did a bit of research, and it should only cost you $7-10 a year to use the suppression plugs. Where did you get your prices? Check a local auto parts store, most have access to a full line of marine parts at much lower prices than a marine dealer. $10 ea. sounds high for that NGK part number, I usually pay about $10 for a platinum plug, and by the P/N that is not a platinum plug. With the quality of the plugs today there should be no need to change them more than every 4-5 yrs. Buy the higher end plugs and keep 'em as spares until needed.

Buying the upper end plugs is the way to go, just don't overpay for them at a marina! An NGK plug purchased at Wal-Mart is the same as the same P/N from a marina or boat dealer. It pays to shop as boat owners are targets. Tom

My friendly marina sold me the NGKS @ $12 per plug. Over the winter I’ll check the auto parts stores, Thanks
