My goal this year is to land a 10 plus pound cat.  I continue to catch the 6 to 8 pound range.  Want a much bigger one.  ANy tip or advice would be very helpful.

What bait do you use.

Graveyard shift, tend to yeild bigger cats.  Although all of my biggest cats have been caught between 5 am up to 9 am in the morning.  It's probably because I'm in a spot where they are returning to their daytime lair.

live bait is best, but doesn't have to be.

my biggest cats of come when i'm fishing for something else and they all have came off different baits.

My Dad fishes for cats in his pond.  Along with commercial fish food he feeds them bread from the surplus store.  It is not unusual for him to catch a cat from 25 to 30 pounds on a bread ball.  Since I only feed mine with commercial feed I usually do better with commercial baits, live baits, and cut baits.  You can use live bluegills in Georgia as long as you don't have more than your daily bag limit in your possession.  Many anglers fishing in our rivers and reservoirs use cut mullet or chicken livers.
There are some neat rigs to use with commercial baits (usually referred to as stink baits)   Maybe, some of our members have a favorite recipe they would share.  Hope you catch that big one. Cats are great fish to start a kid on.  Uncle Tom

I Have a stream that runs thru my place that has Big Cats. I have my best luck with with live Bluegill for flatheads 15 & 20 lbs is common, I find chicken liver and cut baits work better for blues and channels .

Live or cut Chubs is what I have caught my biggest cats on. Hook-up percentage goes down with using the bigger baits but usually the rule I fish by is " bigger bait=bigger fish" and the sent from a cut chub will bring a hit from a cat every time.

Good Morning!  What better to start  the morning off than with tips about catching Cats especially Big Cats!  Do cats has keen sense of smelling out bait?  It appears so.  When salt water fishing for sharks it was not unusual to stop by local packing house and pick up 5 gallons of blood.  You can freeze it into smaller containers and it is not quite so messy.  Just toss it in to make a chum line when you get to your favorite hole.  When king fishing offshore we usually kept a chum line as well as a container that dispensed fish oil (menhaden).  Why not try that on your favorite Big Cat Hole?  Good luck and good fishing!  Uncle Tom
