I have been an active life member for 3or 4 years and and I have been trying to become a field tester. I submitted the form a few different times and then waited for a while. I was doing some clean up in the house today (june 6) and I found and envelope from fishing club dated March 26. My wife probably saw it and figured it was nothing. At any rate This envlope contained a few fishing hooks. I waited for quite a while and with all the cool products available for testing and I get to test a few small hooks. I am a very dissappointed Life Member. Thats almost insulting. |

No you don't have to be a life member, any/all members are eligible. I also got the fish hooks recently, I actually liked them. I have been a life member for over 6 years, field testing stuff is a bonus. No one ever guaranteed you that you would be field testing a new Lowrance or Humminbid system or anything. You should be happy to have an opportunity at free stuff at all. The most insulting thing is your sense of entitlement that you show, expecting something lavish for free from the club. You should be happy there is even a club like this you can join. |

No, you do not need to be a life member to resive any products. if all u resive is fish hooks try choosing a different spesies of fish. Like bass and trout. |

I have been a lifer since 07 and been fortunate enough to test a couple of lures and yes the hooks too. Sure it would be nice to have something better to test but you have to look at it like winning the lottery and I'm still waitng for that winning ticket. If you expect to test a big item your going to be dissapointed more than you like, I'm just happy they ask for my input from time to time and if your able to just be happy for today and pray for tomorrow, tomorrow you may just get something better than you did today . |

Hey Amos, If this helps at all, I remember reading somewhere that if you hold onto the questionaire too long/ not return them they could or will hold off on any furthur product testing. The member results are important to them and they frown against these forms not being returned when others are willing to test and fill them out. It's unfortunate your spouse set this stuff aside so give it some more time. I forgot to send one back myself 2 years ago when I moved and missplaced it, then forgot about it and it took about a year for my name to come back up again. You will also find they have a way to fill these product testing forms out online, It's been a while since I've looked for the link but it's here somewhere. So just do what i did and fill out another request for testing form and as long as your a paid in full lifer your product testing will remain valid as long as you remain breathing. I checked my status after this last test just to make sure I didn't need to fill another out and it still said I was current and on the list, So I know this is true. If your status changes and you need to change anything on your testing file you can always update your info too. Best of luck and try to stay positive, theres a whole lotta people waiting and I'm sure something out there has your name on it. Take care and here's a smile to get you goin |

Hey Zexor and Amosca: Like many of the others said, you don't have to be a Life Member in order to be part of the Field Test program. But you do have to fill out a profile. If you haven't, here's the link to that page: http://www.fishingclub.com/member-s...ogram.aspx
I read a lot here regarding fishing hooks. Those are simply a free gift from the Club to you--not an official Field Test. When you are selected to test a piece of gear, you'll be notified beforehand and receive official paperwork about your test. |

Larry: If you tested the hooks and sent in the report then yes you need to reregister for the testing program (any time they send you a test they take your name out of the program until you register again). I also just tested the easy tie hooks (assuming these are the ones you received) and yes they are an official test item. I have received other hooks for free but no test report or paperwork explaining what I needed to do for the testing. On another note I tried the reports link you have posted and still get the 404 error so not sure what is going on with it [edit] ok tried again and it worked so seems to be working but not 100%.[\edit].

There always has been a large amount of confusion regarding the field test program. Here is my take on how it works: You fill out a tester profile which registers you as a tester. When a your name reaches the top of the list, the next available product that matches your profile is sent to you, preceeded by an email that contains the link for the product report. I was told by member services that there is no time limit to reply, but the manufacturers appreciate a timely response. When a product is sent to you for a test, your name and profile are dropped from the list. Filling out a new profile puts you back into the waiting list. Note: If you at anytime re-file a profile, you move to the back of the line! I have also had my profile drop off during some of the "improvements" to the site. Hope this is some help. Tom |

Right on the noggin there pegsguy, all I can say is look under "my account" and check if your still currently registered for product testing and wait it out. Been well over a year here and reaching that golden year this year I hope too for another stab at the top of the list there's a lot of us out here so don't panic and enjoy the reading. I was impressed with not only the map for crappie spawn time lines but even more the read they gave us about the thing I always found most important, The water temps and depth zones to find them in. Happy fishing everyone. |

Hey fellas, I wish I could lessen the wait for the product-testing program, but indeed, we have a large club and a long list. However, I would encourage you all to Like the NAFC Facebook page -- we run contests and give away prizes almost every week! Maybe your chances of getting a "freebie" every once in a while would increase if you visited the Facebook page every so often. -- Hang in there guys! Web Guy Greg |

I also belong to the Handyman club, life member. It took quite a while to get some test products, and for the most part, were inexpensive. But it was fun testing them and was not disappointed that I didn't get a generator or a hammer drill. The last product tested was a darn good flashlight retailing about $100. Hang in there guys, things DO get better. Bob |

I think thats how to reel you in. Oh we will give you all this cool stuff to test out. But in reality you just get hooks and dinky lures. I was disappointed too but I realised anything free is good. ANYTHING. Ive noticed this club can be weird and sometimes seem like a scam but i just like getting the magazine, I dont expect anything more. |

I would love to hear from someone who received and item worth more than $100 through the old field test program. Out of all the members I have corresponded with over the years, I received the most worthwhile item, an Okuma reel that retails at $89.95. |

Hey Pegsguy, yea I was able to test teh Foley-belsaw fishing guild course, valued at $599.99 I wrote a review on it that you may be able to find. I was dissapointed in the course but not the field testing program. It's a hit/miss situation when it comes to testing and who gets what. The real value is in the hope and anticipation of being able to get something good to test and not so much in teh acual value of the product, the closer your profile matches to whats needing to be tested the better your chances are you may recieve it. I am a bit worried about this new testing program they came up with though. It seems to favor those who like the "social" media outlets more than those of us who acually spend more time in the field and not with out face pinned to a monitor and some twit ter account. Seems like things may be up for grabs around here now that Pennaz is taking time away and letting someone else dip the net in the waters. As for hairy and amosca, Its a lottery scenario on field testing and kind words in response are better suited than sarcasm. your club members, not frat brats so I hope. GL to ev1 and enjoy what you have, not what your hoping for. |

My intention was to reference a real, tangible item of gear that would be of use to most of the members, not the "trial subscriptions" for software or a course on becoming a guide, which, admit it , has limited value to a large portion of the membership here.

Well, I've only been a member since June, and as of yet, I haven't received a magazine. I did receive the "welcome" packet; the sticker and card, basically, but no free gift to speak of. I never got a chance at the old field testing program, but when I checked my email tonight, I had one from StuffStuff, informing me I've been selected to test the plastic lures from basskandi. It claims that the lures should be shipped in 2-3 weeks, and that after I have received and tested them, that I would need to write a review, then I should be able to apply points to next item I am interested in testing. It also claims that should I submit some photos (I'm assuming they mean photos of fish I caught with lures), that would also give me extra points. So long as StuffStuff does what it's supposed to, I should receive the lures, so long as the product manufacturer does what it's supposed to. Only time will tell... I basically joined this club for the magazine and the forum. The off-chance that I might get to test some sort of product and maybe win one of the contests were only very small selling points; I'm more interested in what the magazine and forum might pass along in the way of experience, and in maybe a chance to help someone else out with what I know. I guess we all need to remember that "nothing in life is free", and if it is, maybe we shouldn't expect too much from it? |

In fairness, the reason you are not receiving the magazine may not be the club's fault, they do depend on the USPS to deliver! I received my Aug/Sept/Oct issue just a few days ago. If you haven't received yours by the end of the week, call member services. My attempts at emailing the club have met with frustration. |

Lohycore. I also have the Bass Kandi to field test. I got mine this week. Have not had time to go to the lake as yet but tomorrow is the day. Sure hope they work as good as they look. Will be give my report tomorrow night. I also did not join for the free stuff as I know that is basically a come on. I did join for the magazine, what I can learn, and the Friendship of other fishermen. Hope all your casts produce a hit. |

I've been a life member since 1996. I also joined for the magazine and knowledge. Field testing was/is a perk. I always kept my profile active during those years. I was fortunate to have been selected to test many items through the years. From plastic baits to catfish bait to harness rigs. That said, I've never tested anything valued over $10. Until now. A month ago I received an email stating that NAFC was turning the field test program over to StuffStuff. A week ago, I followed the link and completed all of the questionnaires. Even though I only belong to NAFC, you can fill out profiles for The Hunting and Handyman Clubs too. Yesterday I received an email stating that I was accepted to test a pair of Rocky boots valued at $150. Something tells me that this new program is a huge improvement over the old one. If anyone has any questions on how StuffStuff works, just ask. |

I recently got a free pocket knife after buying a set of books. The liner lock was messed up, but I got it functional. A week later and it's pretty much falling apart. No love for that product. That said, the hooks, lines, and other goodies have been fine. |

Actually NAFC promotes the opportunity to field test as a membership benefit. I haven't had a chance to field test anything in years, except the chance to share all my detailed fishing information with some stranger's database. LOL. Seriously guys. The economy sucks. I doubt the club is getting much in the way of stuff to share with the members these days. They also have some pretty stringent requirements (according to a past product test provider I have spoken with) to get involved with their product test program. I read my magazine and that's the end of it for now I suspect.

Word of caution to everyone Rodtender, I was banned from facebook after posting only a few likes and reviews of products I've tested, used on my own and said I wanted to try because it looked like a good thing. I mean after only a few too. I was told its in violation of facebook policies. So who are we suppose to be helping here. Our club members or stuff stuff? seems like only one getting anything out of it so far is not the ones getting banned for posting likes. This new way of field testing seemed to over look a few things like facebook rules. Now lets see how they treat those of us who've lost something in the process of helping them advertise in public forums. |

Hey fishalotadays, That is odd you would be booted from facebook for posting likes and reviews...it is encouraged by stuffstuff. My facebook page looks like a billboard for stuffstuff likes...and I have posted my reviews on it too. Matter of fact, stuffstuff was the only reason I even made an FB page. I resemble that remark Wellsley. I didn't sign up either. I have field tested some of the beads and trinkets that were offered for testing before snuff-snuff, and didn't think it would get any better. So far I haven't missed any of it. I'll just let the folks who signed up have a better chance of testing something. Salty Dan Life member |

Guess what Mo, I only started the facebook page for stuff stuff, listed onlyi a few items and was told I was spamming. Something more to it? I dont think so buddy. Other than the fact maybe they only scan a small percentage of whos doing what. Maybe you have some more Ideas to toss out here about someone you dont know ? Don't be making assumptions about something you've no idea about you know what happens when you assume something dont you. AS for facebook they can fishstick it in the mudhole, I've done fine b4 facebook and wont miss a thing without it. As for my fellow fishing club girls and boys go It's just nice to know it isnt happening to all of us. What's that I hear? oh yea something more important to do, hard water fishing and not posting advertisments on social media for someone who doesnt care what "you" get to try out. Happy hunting ev1. P.S. Lots of perch, crappie and slab gills in the bucket this week. What sounds more fun, fishing or posting? |

Fishalotadays,
your right members beware! how long did they ban you for?
Members have stated the same concerns as you mentioned on SS's FB page and they have addressed this issue warning members about liking and posting to may reviews at one time on FB. I limited my post to 2 a day 10 Total a week and have not had a problem. I'm at level 6 with 500+ points
We all know field testing is one of the biggest complaints members have with the clubsover the years . Finally we can pick product via SS we are interested in testing and we can apply for products under any of the club sections listed Hunting ,fishing, cooking, home imp, gardening as a member of SS plus we can select/ apply for up to ten products at one time ( it's still luck of the draw) and you are not garrentied that you will be selected to test a product. For all of you who have not signed up yet : When you sign up for SS you get points based on the level of membership via the club you sign up under. Liking, tweeting and writing product reviews on products you might have used alows us to add points to our dash board total. unfortunatly we rush into it because we want to max out our points so we can apply for the high dollar products . Read the FAQ section on SS. before jumping into it
