Because of us and the government . we want raises , benefits, and something we can afford so its cheaper to make it some where else The government has crappy trade policies and taxes . Made in America is more like assembled in America . If this continues the only thing made in America will be kids and higher taxes. |

Very simple. Union's demands for outrageous pay and benefits forced American manufacturing to either close down or move out of the country. |

So if it were up to you, you would expect every experienced trades worker to earn minimum wage in order for the rest of us to be able to afford toys. I am no politician but it sounds like you have the knack for it. I was a union laborer for 18 years, and even though I was not considered a tradesman ( because I was a laborer) I worked my a_ _ off for every paycheck. When my local was short handed and we tried to bring people in off the street to work they could not handle the daily work load the union demanded from them. Trust me, there was nothing outrageous about my pay or my benefits I worked very hard for both. Maybe you should try to use some critical thinking skills before you spout off with unrealistic notions about a working class of people. Good fishin from the U P where the open pit mines produce steel for the world, and they are unionized. |

Bford I did not say that, people died for what we have today . I was union and proud of it .
BASS OR BASS If not for the unions you would be working for pennies 7 days a week all day long .
and perhaps they would let you eat if you were lucky enough.

I'm self employed and when business was good I worked 7 days a week, 12 hours a day.. No complaints there, I wish I had that workload today. My profession has been in critical decline for the last 2 years, many dental laboratories and clinics have closed and gone out of business, including some very good and knowledgable friends. The survivers have had to reduce their workforce by 50 to 75% to stay in business. I'm barely surviving myself. The only workers who are doing well thanks to the Obama administration are government union workers whose pay averages double what private sector workers make. I grew up in a home where my dad was a teamster union worker. The money he lost during every strike we never made up later. Im the first to admit that there was a need for unions one hundred years ago to protect workers from robber barons, however their time has passed. It's now the unions that exploit the workers for their pay to support corrupt union (organized crime) bosses lifestyle at the expense of the workers jobs due to the bloated wages and benefits that make American union made products too expensive to compete with American non union or foreign made products. The unions have become a fatal parasite feeding on American labor. A perfect example is the American steel industry. Nearly non existant due to union demands for higher and higher pay and benefits that drove the mills to close down. Please explaine how that helped those workers. I grew up in western Pennsylvania and saw first hand how thousands suffered when the mills closed and the steel workers had no jobs or income to support their families. |

bford....you wrote that guys off the street couldn't handle the work load that the union demanded of them...really?? Really??? 2 Mexicans can do more work and probably better than team of union carpenters can do any day of the week, and twice on Sundays...(i'm not mexican either) with that said I know I'm probably going to take heat for this comment, but I have to say it...Unions in America are ruining our country. (Andy Stern head of SEIU) has been at the white House numerous times laying out the agenda for Obama and his cronies. They have forced out so many companies with their ridiculious labor demands and wages. This didnt start overnight either. This has been going on for the last 50-60 years. I am all for livable wages and benefits. The cost of living wouldn't be so high if the unions didn't demand so much. Example: If it costs a company 5 dollars to produce a product, and 75 an hour to pay a union employee and his benefits...where's the profit??? There is no profit. Everyone complains about China, but the cost of living in China is far less than living in USA...Theres alot more to say, but it's 5am and I'm tired... |

we seem to have gottten off topic ( made in China), well i will continue with the union bashing. I belong to a union CSEA. We have been working without a contact for the past year. When we finally passed it the union raised our dues to help support the Obama administration. I dont have a choice as to weather I want to be apart the the union or not because they will take dues out of me just to work there, however I wouldnt have any help from them in keeping my job if troubl e arose. All the care about is the money and power the control. |

"The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China. If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer it will go to India. If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in US. I've been doing my part." Marc Faber June 2008

I have been on the "Made in USA" kick for a long time. Just when I think I have got it out of my system, something else comes along. My main job is to answer the phone and say NO! As the day closes I drive one mile to school and pick my grand daughter up and bring her home and get her started on her homework. While I wait for her at school I generally read some from one of our NAFC books. As I opened the BIG BOOK OF BASS yesterday I decided to check some info in the front of the book to discover it was like most of our books "Printed in China". I love the book and like most it is well done but today it is not quite as special as it was. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! Uncle Tom |

| I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country. |
