I BUILD ON A REGULAR  BASIS. GET YOURSELF A BOOK TO START.LOT OF THEM OUT THERE. ALSO GET ALL THE RESORCES YOU CAN FOR SUPPLIERS. IT'S ALL ABOUT COST. CUSTOM RODS ARE ALWAYS MORE EXPENSIVE TO BUY. I'VE HEARD THIS TOO MANY TIMES. " I CAN GET ONE AT WALLMARTS FOR LESS". HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK..

Hello, Crappiedude, & welcome to the Club's Forums.  I'll bet when they mention Wal-Mart, they can't say they got a rod just like the one you built!

How are you, Troutchaser?  You are about to open yourself up to a whole new world.  There is NOTHING like the feeling of catching fish on a rod you've built... or rebuilt.  You have a much more intense feeling when you haul that first fish in with something you've created with your own hands than you get with any store-bought stick.  And you always get the exact rod you want this way, too.  To me, it's always been a lot more fun, & adds a whole new dimension to the sport.  Enjoy, my friend, enjoy.

Keep the line fresh, the hooks sharp, and have fun fishing. God bless you. -Sonny, Life Member since 2002

kflI never got into true rod building but I have done a bit of wrapping to keep favorite rods going.   I do have one rod that I call my composite fiberglass/bamboo rod.  It is composed of the tip section of a Penguin UL rod that had a couple of inches broken off and the center section of a bamboo fly rod.   I married these pieces together in 1969 and it has been my favorite rod every since.  But certainly not my only one

I hear ya. I have an old browning sylaflex steelhead rod that I love. Broke the tip but used a piece of an old rod and spliced it . Still my favorite pole.
