I will be in a tournament the end of the month on the frontrange of Colorado. This will be from 7pm to 7am. under a full moon. Any suggestions on methods and tackle to try?

I've never fished for smallies at night, but I suppose the same tactics used for largemouth bass should work. Small jitterbugs or the arbogast plastic version one. Small poppers, frog baits, or prop baits. I know one time I used a small buzzbait and it worked pretty well for bass. For the most part looks like the tourney time gives the window for the dusk and dawn bite as well, so typical tactics will work for the prime time bite.

this time of yr. the smallies should be feeding really heavy in shallow gravelly areas near deep water. the 2 main things that they should be feeding on are 1] crayfish and 2] minnows.
i use to do alot of nite fishing and most of my smallies came from an sunken island that was an acre in size. the top is very gravelly mixed with sand, and is only 2ft deep at it's shallowess. it has several fingers going off in different directions towards deeper water. also on top of this island use to be covered with reeds and wild rice--- that was back in the day when the smallmouth fishing was great on this lake-- but because of boat traffic and jet skis this islands top is totally bare and the fishing has dropped off on this bar on this lake.
