I have an 8 day fishing trip to Leech Lake, MN.  I have not fished the lake before.  My trip is Mid June.  What can I expect and any suggestions?  I plan to fish all species of fish while there.

I forwarded your query to the North American Fisherman editorial team, and got back this reply today from NAFC Executive Director Steve Pennaz:

"Tough to beat Northland Fireball jigs and live shiners. Stay shallow--8 to 15 feet and fish the windiest shoreline."

    Tight lines!

Minnesota has the BEST info of ANY state in regards to fishingon webpages...Wisconsin is 2nd.

    For Leech Lake...check THIS webpage...

    http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind...m=11020300

And for depth / contour maps...check this page...

    http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind...apid=B0050

    And this map in particuilar...

    http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefi...050011.tif

Leech has a MASSIVE amount of structure...depending on the wind...and water temps PRIOR to when you get there...there COULD be several things happening.

Since you are targeting ALL species...look for areas on the map that have MANY kinds of structure CLOSE by.

In other words...IF you can target a small area that has a point...and a couple of underwater humps (islands)...AND both shallow AND deeper water nearby...IMHO..that area would get you action of SOME kind for sure.

Contact Jeff Woodruff with the Leech Lake Guide group (check with Reeds Sporting Goods), Jeff has his boat on the water in Shinkobee Bay. I found my passion (aka sickness) for Muskies while fishing with Jeff 14 years ago. He has great knowledge of the Lake and can show you great spots. Leech is a HUGE lake so be careful, learn what you can from Jeff and have fun the rest of the week!! You might mention The "Wine Guy", Kyl from Des Moines recommended him.
