    I was just wondering how many anglers here drink beer or any other alcoholic concoction while fishing? If you fish from the shore, do you sit, drink, fish and just relax? Have you ever had "one too many" while leisurely fishing from the shore and have fallen in or have made a humorous or embarrassing fishing mistake worthy of being mentioned here? And if you fish from a boat and also drink, well you better have someone else to pilot you back to the launch and drive you home!

    Here in Ohio, it is against the law to have an open container at the lake...but that doesn't stop them. I would think it would be hard to enjoy a beer while I had both hands full of rod & reel. Maybe while still fishin'...if it was legal here.

    I have been known to enjoy a beer or two while fishing. Some areas I fish prohibit alcohol, most of the state parks don't. I hardly think two beers over 4 hours of fishing is going to impair anyone, but I have seen some fishermen consume far more!

    My partner brings a few Rolling Rock beers for us on our fishing trips. I don't drink many. These trips are 32 hours long by the way. My other fishing buddy who has his own boat brings a 32 pack of Budweiser!?!?! Of course, his idea of fishing is putting some bait on a hook, tossing it in the water, and drinking beer! Danny and I fish hard and don't have much time for drinking beer. We do go through a lot of water though. I take a 5 gallon water cooler on my boat. It gets extremely hot during the day on the lakes here in the desert.

    Me and my fishing buddy do drink a few beers on the lake while we are out on the water.However with me having a class A lic. I can't drink to much because of my ligal limit is half of the normal driving so i don't risk it. He is in law inforcement so he has to watch what he dose also. but a few in a 10-12 hr day is o.k. .( I HOPE) I do see alot of guys out there that are in bad shape and don't see how they load the boat up to get home or even make it home.I also agree that it is hard to fish with one hand and hold a beer in the other..Be safe if you are fishing and drinking thuo guys and gals...JOHN

    It's all about responsibility. If you are able to fish and have a few without drinking to excess then great. I have been known to have a few beers while fishing but only a few. If I am bass fishing I don't have time to drink because I fish at such a frenetic pace and move around from spot to spot quite frequently. I occasionally will have a few while trout fishing from my Dad's boat because he is the one who pilots the boat and then drives home which gives me the ability to relax and have a couple cold ones!

    For me its all about them Arnie's. Couple Arizonas and I'm good for a full day of fishing. I may be a bit biased, but it seems as though most of the cans I take out of my line collection tubes (which are under fire from the town) are beer cans, which gets old after a while. Guys, just a friendly reminder, if you tip one back while out fishing, take your trash out with ya, it helps everyone out, especially the dudes who have to get it out of the park for ya.

    Well, it did seem odd that CQ complained '151's post wasn't fishing related, then posted this the very next morning. I have posted on both threads. Even though neither will improve my fishing...I found them both interesting. CQ and '151 are both my friends...as is Barresi. I don't see any "harrassment" coming from any of their comments. My best advise would be, if you see a post that you don't like, just move on. If you make a negative comment, you better be prepared for debate! You can bet that I'm going to defend my posts.

    No need to stick up for me, His has more to do with fishing then mine did in a way, He asked if any of you guys drink alcholic drinks while fishing, his had the word fishing in it.

I'm sorry...hahaha...you seem to be the guy that likes to make comments, most of them sarcastic and condescending...Your able to dish it out, but cant take it?? If you look at my posts...about 90% of them are tips and advice with a few compliments, questions and a couple of complaints thrown in for good measure. Most of my tips and advice are intended to help others, And I can say they have, with the replys I have gotten back. Can u say that about yourself and your posts? So go ahead and report this post to Greg...what a baby!

    That's actually a pretty good attitude and philosophy to have. At least that way there is no chance of getting injured on the water! Unless of course you sit on a hook or something!

    I don’t usually drink when I fish. But my one buddy that I go with sometimes will bring a pint and a 12 just for him. This means that he will usually put a rod holder in the ground and just sit there. Haha one time though we were shore fishing at a spot with a ledge about 3 feet or so off the water and he did get a little too close to the edge. Needless to say I think all the fish in that area were scared off for a while. But I did get a good laugh out of it.

    Boy The way i see some of these posts Its a good thing you weren't around when the boyz and the bushwhackers where ribbing each other . Yes the intent was to bash the other group but it was also all in fun . I miss them days .

    Some of you need to learn to take things with a grain of salt and if that don't work follow it with a shot of tequila.

    They just legalized drinking at state parks in NE this last year. As long as you're not doing in on a roadway, parking area, or swimming area, its between 6am and 10pm, and your "alcoholic container is less than a gallon" (I assume they mean no kegs? lol). Must admit, I did take advantage of it last year and found it to be even more relaxing than usual. ***Be responsible guys!*** I have a small cooler that holds nine on ice perfectly and my fishing day usually lasts from about 5:30am till about 2 pm or 4pm till after sunset, so the time frame actually excessive ***Pack it in, Pack it out***

    It depended on who I was fishing with. If I was fishing with my citified friends, we'd find a shady spot, set up our rods on rod holders, drown a few worms, fire up the transistor radio and just throw back a few cold ones and wait until the fish told us they were ready to be brought in. If I was fishing with my dye in the wool, southern fried bassin buddies the strongest drink we had in the boat or during the fishing was Dr. Pepper. We'd come in for lunch, rest and get back out on the water. If anyone had a few drinks during lunch, that was it for him for the rest of the day. That person would have to fish from the shore cause he would not be allowed back in the boats for that day. All our drinking was done after dinner after all chores for the day were done and everything was ready for the next day's fishing. It kept everyone safe and no one had a problem sitting out for the rest of the day. We had one guy in our newest group he would bring gallons of liquor and beer with him. It was a drinking trip for him. He might fish a couple of hours a day, it that much. He spent most of his time in the lodge drinking. Not my idea of a fishing trip.

    Dont believe in drinking on the water other then water i have a rough time standing without drinking and its a lot safer .

    Sounds like he was lucky he didn't drown!!!! to me it's on the same level as Drinking and Driving! they just don't mix!

    Well I used to be a life guard so he would have been fine. But it was pretty funny. I really don’t understand why he feels the need to get wasted when we go out fishing. But at least I win a couple bucks here and there from whatever bet we might make.  Though I am a little worried because I kayak fish and this year he wants to get a kayak and go out with me. Which is a different story because I would be real mad if I had to bail out of my kayak if he had a problem. So we’ll see I might have to make a rule up that if he is going to go out with me he can’t bring booze with him.

    Hey bassman, just make sure he wear a life vest, the kind that floats you face up while you are disoriented. Then maybe you can steady his boat while he climbs back in. Maybe a drenching might make a good wake up call. I have SOSpenders that I wear all the time when I am on the water.
    I used to drink a little and I don't understand wasted eilther, once i got a bit of abuzz on, I would back off for a bit, I wanted the good feeling, not to get to totally stupid or sick (have made both of those a few times and did not enjoy them). I used to lhave a batch of pictures which were sent to me and they were set to the song "Take Your Drunk A$$ Home".

    Interesting post. I am sorry I missed it earlier. A nice brew or two while fishing is nice but i agree about being careful. I usually fish from shore and a couple of heinies fit perfectly in the back pocket of my vest.

    I too enjoy a few beers while on the water but not so much that i can't drive my boat or drive home..you can never be to save on the water with the sun beating down on you, alcohol can effect you in alot of way's in the heat.... be save guy's and gal's............JOHN

    I don't drink any type of alcoholic beverage while fishing or boating and if you were in my boat, you would not too. I don't need to be held responsible for the stupid things people do when they mix alcohol with the sun under the disguise of going fishing. But then I don't drink when I plan to drive my vehicle or any vehicle, nor would I ride with you when you have been drinking. I really enjoy fishing and get all my excitement from the sport.

    Since originally authoring this topic a short time ago, I have since quit indulging in alcoholic libations. Although I did have one relapse (my brother's birthday was celebrated at the bar) I am content with rarely or never drinking the stuff again.
