Hello Everyone, I was going through the Bass Pro 2008 fishing catalog and on page 382 is a device called the Spike-It Color-C-Lector which is supposed to help you pinpoint the color of lure to use for the conditions for $99.99. This appears to be endorsed by Jimmy Houston. Has anyone out there tried this device? This item doesn't appear in the member tested and approved. If anyone has any thoughts on this or can point me to a cheaper alternative, please hit me back. Best Regards, Jason

it May .But how well i dont know . This came out eons ago. like back in the 70s or 80s and remeber jimmy had spoanser and well there for you use there products . just like he swears by stern and well linders swear by trilien .
dose it work probly is it worth 100 bucks i have no clue . but its supose to show you the most visable colors so there for if a fish can see the lure i would only asume that perhaps they may hit it . if they cant see it well then they only can go of vibration and sent .
kinda like if i wave a 100 dollor bill in front of your face . you can see it and probly would grab it . but if i waved it behind your head you probly would hear it but not know what the heck it realy was.
IF it moves whack it <)))
especially if it's from Illinois |

Save your money! I had one years ago when it first came out. It seemed to work when you put the probe in the water the needle moved on a color scale and you were to put that color lure on.But you had to have that color and some of the shades were strange to match and if you moved to a new spot you had to test the water again. Also its another gadget to clutter your boat! If you have a $100.00 to spend use it to buy good lures in different colors and try them out as you fish. This is the fun of fishing! I would suggest to all youngsters starting out to get a small notebook ( waterproof?) and as you catch fish or don't catch fish to record your results. Keep track of water temp. and color and lures that did or didn't work and also depth and speed of retrive. Also weather conditions. I would suggest a water temp. device as a good tool for fishing. If you keep a log of your fishing trips as the years go by it will show patterns that will help you to find fish faster.Do not think that your memory will help you remember as years go by as we all get old and details get fuzzy! After years of fishing under all kinds of conditions you will have a great tool to use to help yourself! |

I agree with Anonymous. My buddy had one in the late 70's. He tried it for one summer -- it has been taking up space in has rod storage locker ever since. |

Yeah, Save your money. I bought one back in the 80"s. You'll spend all day checking the water at each place you stop to fish. In a boat its a pain to use. I didnt see any advantage in using it. It sure makes you buy a lot of different colored lures. I must have every worm color ever made. Just remember, a fish will bite a lure if it is in the right place..right speed and he is in a feeding mood. Lots of fish feed at night. Think color means anything then????? Its just a gimmick based on some scientific facts about color and water depth. Color s matter with some crappie lures , for sure, however. |

there is scientific ways to find bass, in fact you can cut most lakes in half as to where bass can be and can not be(or more so can't stay long and live heathy for long), it is costly and time consuming to do this, & not many fishermen will go the hole disstance unless they are turney fisher's or guides, there is also a great cheat sheet for lure selection with temps and water clarity, but i can't seem to up size it or git the link right now for some reason? but i will .... if you want to buy a temp gauge(most fishfinders have that) then a O2 meter( a real science one cost alot!) and then a ph tester, you can stop fishing alot of non occupied by bass waters, then if you git all that and would like the best ph. o2. and temps numbers for finding productive bass i can shear them! let me know and i'll start somethin in the bass section..... just the temp of the water will be a big factor in how you fish....
does anyone have the lure selection pdf that dave2000 posted along time ago,cuz it aint comin up for me... and the one on my `puter won't attach?
|
