Has anyone on this message board ever fished Tobin Lake

in Canada ?  Tobin Lake resort has very reasonable rates,

but it's a long way from home - I'd hate to make the trip if it

    isn't worth it!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

                  Bill

I've fished Tobin many times. It's one of my favorite places to go. When you do go expect to catch Pike and Walleye. There are 4 other species in the lake but are harder to catch except for perch (several areas are full of them). If you want to camp out go to Carroll's Cove on the north side. You go to White Fox and follow the road east about 9 miles to the turn off to the lake ( a sign points the way. Tobin Lake Resort on the south side rents boats and has cabins, a marina and other amenities. You will have a blast, the lake is 35 miles long and you may want to try Eagles Nest (it's on the river part). Get at least a small map, you will need it. I've been out all day and never seen another boat.

Thanks for the info, Ron. If we make the trip up there, we will definitely stay at the Tobin Lake Resort. Since this is such a large body of water we will most likely hire one of the guides that the Resort offers - at least for the first day or two.

In your opinion, what is the best time of year to catch trophy walleye and pike up there ?  Also, any lure recommendations and tactics would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Bill,

Try jointed Rapalas in the 5 to 7 inch range and red and white Daredevils. For walleyes you can buy frozen minnows and jig them (good on perch, too).Pretty much any minnow style crank-bait will work. If you are going around the first of June almost any thing will work, Take a few bags of  flavored plastics also. I'm a little jealous, I won't get to go this year. Have a lot of fun,

Oh, in the raps any gold and black works and I use Husky Jerks, both for casting and trolling. Hits often come after a short pause. Other colors like rainbow work, too.
