I'm asking for tips on trout fishing. I have allways been a cat fisherman tried for bass . Have not yet cought one yet tryed crappie have not cought one yet and now I'm going to try trout . I have bought a ultra light pole with an spinner reel with 4 pound test and lots of 16 treble hooks and a few power baits . If you have any sugestions for me or just some tips it would help . jsummers 1st i would like to welcome you to the bb and hope we can find your answer for you.
2nd. would like to know what area of this nation are you trying to do all this fishing? this can make it easier on us to help you to know this.
3rd. have you check with your local lakes and streams and know that these body's of water do hold the fish that you are asking about?
4th. if you look around on the different threads you will see that this ? has been answered before or should i say have been ask before. so i believe the answers are here. but i do know we will answer them again and when they are ask again we will answer the call.

power baits do work, but i wouldn't solely rely on them. live bait as for worms, crawlers, minnows, crayfish, leaches and even some bugs as grasshoppers and crickets well work. each of these baits of different seasons to be used and a few will work all year long.
as for artificial baits, there are many kinds and styles that do work. small in line spinners, spoons, minnow type plugs-- such as rebels and rapala's, jigs and flies and even small flatfish.

there are different ways to use all these baits and i know there will be more add to the list and even tips on how to use them.

JSummers:  There are a few posts about your question in the trout and salmon section and probably a few in the Az. state section. There are a couple of members from Az. that are better qualified to answer than I am, but remember that you are fishing a "put and take" type of fishery and the fish will behave differently than wild (non-hatchery) fish.
