I've got a St Croix rod (Warranty Expired) and the ceramic insert on the tip guide popped out. I was able to recover the ceramic insert. The ceramic insert and the guide was not damaged, so I super-glued the ceramic insert back inside the guide. Has anyone experienced this before? Will the super-glue work or should I order a replacement tip guide? Also, is there anyone experienced with St Croix rods that can give me directions on how to replace the tip guide? Is it glued with a hot glue, so all I would have to do is heat the guide and pull it off? or will I have to cut it off and replace the tip? Thanks in advance. Matt

try heating it, it is more then most likely hot glue.

Yep, heat the tube part of the tip, carefully, don't want to damage the rod shaft underneath it. I usually use stick matches and needle nose pliers to pull them off (and for installation).

I've had to superglue my guide inserts back on a rod or two before. I'm always leary that it will pop off again.

I ordered a new tip guide today. The super glue method looks good, but it also makes me a little leary. I'll try to heat the guide once the new one arrives.
    Thanks for the input,

Super glue is not permanent in wet environments. A rod tip gets wet regularly, so super glue is a poor choice here. Epoxy is a better choice.

You were right bass or bass?. Super glue did not work. I replaced it with a new tip guide. Used the heated glue St Croix provided. Matt

The problem with super glue isn't the water. Super glue has no shear strength(won't take twisting or flexing) and replacement tips are rarely a real tight fot on the end of the rod. Tom

The downside to epoxy is that it is permanent. Hot glue is a better choice. You don't need a glue gun, just shave a few slivers off a stick, drop them into the new tip and heat the tip with a Bic lighter while holding it with a pair of needle nose or tweezers then insert the rod and let it cool. Should the tip become bent or otherwise damaged, heat will release it and allow for replacement. Tom
