That is an awkward price to work with. You are limiting yourself to making a number of compromises. $400 will get you a 5" screen, color, GPS or a memory slot. Pick two. Lowrance has a compact color unit with GPS (M68c, $299 @ BPS) but it is a compact and lacks a memory slot. Color is a definite plus. You might think about buying a compact now with the thought of relocating it later after investing in a larger helm unit. (I assume the initial install would be at the helm station) You should have GPS at the helm if possible.
