Spinnerbaits are one of my top fish producers, and they are super versatile. The best color can change from day to day...more like hour to hour. My favorites are black, white, and a color Booyah calls gold shad, but your best bet is to buy a variety of colors and blade types and experiment. Trailer hooks are only necessary if you want to CATCH the fish when it bites! LOL, always use a trailer hook.

I like dark colors in stained water. The less visibility the darker color I use, like black, blue, etc. If its clear water with good visibility I use lighter colors like white, chartruse, etc. Experiment like Mo said and find what works for you. I have a whole rainbow of spinnerbaits in my tackle box |

White silver blade , white brass or gold blade, black silver blade, black brass or gold blade, chart silver blade, chart brass or gold blade , now as to willow or Colorado or tandem is up to you . But those will cover most your needs . |

My automatic choice is a combo already mentioned. Get a 1/2oz. with double willow leaf blades, one gold and one silver and pair it with a chartreuse and white skirt - with trailer hook for the short strikes. This is my go-to bait for all water colors unless they're just up and chasing shad like they do in the fall. Then it's white on white (ALL white - blades, skirt, everything). I've tried Colorado blades (single and tandem) for situation fishing but I've caught many more using spinnerbaits with willow leaf blades. |

Colorado versus willow Colorado blades give more lift =slower fall rate and more vibration willow blades offer less lift=faster fall rate more flash and slip through vegetation easier .
you can get tandems in double Colorado, willow. or one Colorado and one willow blade .

a few other things you can try for short strikes is add a trailer like a grub body or forked tail you can also cut the skirt short . Give it a haircut so the skirt is the same length as the hook shank.
