i'd have to say my favorite two baits for smallies are berkly's finesse 4" worm in watermelon and live crayfish.if you've never tried crayfish your missin out.i caught my biggest smallies in numbers and in size with live crayfish.you don't want them to big because they just pick at it and you don't want them too small because then you'll get pesterd by the little ones and run out of bait.so next time when fishin's a little tough try live crayfish.
