Anyone ever run into any businesses you would reccomend for parts for antique or old motors.  The reason I ask is I have a wards sea king 9.2 I believe.  It has been in my Dads basement for about 10 years now, the only problem with it from what we went through is that it has a cracked lower unit.  ( the unit has a crack all the way around the cone where the drive shaft comes out the motor and to the prop,  this motor does not have any other damage, so I am thinking it was left outside at some point and got water in the lower unit which made it blow out in the cold.  I would like to get it running and start to use it, I am taking my dad's boat ( a 14 ft landau), and this would be perfect to push it, especially seeing as it is only 52 lbs. easy to get it on and off the transom at each fishing hole I go to, ( the transom on the boat is not reinforced for trailer transport with the motor on it).  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I will try and post info after this weekend including pics.

If all else fails, the crack can be fixed. I have a 60's model Evinrude that was given to me. It had cracked half way around the lower unit ( bad seals/water froze ) . I took the lower unit off, cleaned it thoroughly with acetone and a brass wire brush. A friend welded the outside of the lower unit, then I used J.B. Weld on the inside of the unit. I sanded the J.B.Weld smooth, cleaned it again and put it back together with new seals.

 

That was 8 years ago, still no leaks.

Both Car Quest and NAPA auto parts stores have good access to parts for older motors. Sometimes you will get lucky and find a boater selling parts at one of these places. Tom

I have a 1973  9.6 Wards Sea King. It is a Chrysler made Sea King. A place I found for parts is Franz Marine. They deal in anything Chrysler, Force, Westbend and Sportjet made. Depending on the year your Sea King was made it may be Chrysler built. Give Franz a call and see. Have your serial and model #'s ready when you call.
