Hey everyone...Looking to upgrade my electronics over the winter. I have an old garmin gps and a old humminbird 3d wide, both are black & white, and both being out dated. They still work, but time to upgrade. I've narowed my choice selection to either a Lowrance HDS 7 or 8 or the Humminbird 800 or 900 series combos. If I can get opinions or recommendations it would be helpful...Oh...I fish in saltwater, with depths ranging up to 150 ft...If that helps. Thanks, look foward to hearing from you...Vito

If it were me, without a doubt I would go with the Lowrance HDS and add the LSS1 side and down scan.

Hey Harry...thanks for the reply. I've been leaning towards to HDS 7 w/down scan. I have to ask you, How are the down scan and side scan imaging?? Is it as accurate as it looks on Lowrance's website? I've read a few bad reviews on other websites about the down scan image..Most people were saying it didnt look like it was depicted on Lowrance's website. Maybe you can help me out? Thanks.

Hi- Over the years (a lot of them) I have had both Lowrance and Humminbird units and didn't have a problem with either brand. I have two boats and have a mixture of Humminbird and Lowrance on them. My units are 3 to 4 years old, so they aren't the latest stuff. I have fished with a lot of guys that have the latest of both brands. I am impressed with both and would go for the one that I could get the best deal on. I really don't think you could go wrong with any of the units that you mentioned.
