I would think long and hard before purchasing a trolling motor that did not have digital speed control. There is a huge difference in battery life. Tom

I'm not sure about this comment.  The PowerDrive V2 has digital maximizer technology aka digital speed control as do most if not all Minn Kota trolling motors.  I have the Terrova with I-pilot and I love it.  To me the disadvantage of the PowerDrive is that you have to give up the foot pedal with I-pilot and only use the remote.  With the Terrova, the foot pedal still functions along with the remote.  To me, this is essential  so that I can fish and make course and speed changes at the same time.  Just a comment - in my opinion the I-pilot system is the most innovative improvement to trolling motor function in a long time.  It should be interesting to see what Motor-Guide comes up with for competition.

My boat is equiped with the PD V2 w/ i-pilot. The i-pilot was an aftermarket item I put on the trolling motor. It took a little adjustment to get used to the hand controller and loosing the use of the foot control, however, I think it was worth it. I live in an area which has three lakes. I recorded the shoreline route for each lake (they are smaller lakes, less than 2 miles long around the shoreline) and it is AWESOME now. I press the play button and the trolling motor does all the work. As far as the battery life on the PD V2, I have no complaints, it lasts all day. I personally think the quality of the i-pilot is a good investment. That may be because I fish only those three lakes 80% of the time, so the record-a-track function is priceless for me. I guess if you continually fish different bodies of water, that function may not be as suitable for you, however, that's just an opinion and I may be wrong. All in all, I love it. Like wmiket mentioned, the loss of the foot controller is the only con with the PD V2.

Thanks for all the info you guys provided. Will be looking in for another trolling motor and more than likely get either the terrova or the pd v2. My boat is pretty old but in good condition so I was thinking of getting a good upgrade on my electronics on it.

The information I have on the V2 does not state specifically that it has digital control while my info on the Terrova specifically mentions it. If the V2 is digital, great! Tom

I made a quick check on their website to make sure. The V2 does have the maximizer. The only ones that don't are the low end motors. I agree though - don't buy a new trolling motor without it if you expect to fish all day.

As wmiket stated, all models of the Power Drive V2 have the digital maximizer. The V2 on my boat has the universal sonar and Autopilot; both are excellent features. I haven't yet pulled the trigger on the i-pilot because I don't want to loose the foot pedal functionality. IMO there's way too much to go wrong with the key fob on the water without a foot pedal backup. Lost fobs, dead batteries, buttons don't work, dog eats it, etc. that can leave you s.o.l. without the pedal as backup.

If you're wife (sounds like a good one) is going to get you a trolling motor for your b-day, I would strongly suggest stepping up to the Terrova. It is built much more heavy-duty, deploys and stows easier, better foot pedal, and if you do decide on i-pilot, you won't give up the pedal.
