I got a 2002 Johnson 15 hp motor. The other day when out fishing I went to give it gas and all it would do is idle the throttle linkages were moving when I turned the handle on the tiller handle. I replaced the fuel pump and still nothing but an idle. Just wondering if anyone experiences a similar problem. I took it into a repair shop but they said it's their busy time of year and it may take 5 weeks to get it back. I'm missing some prime fishing here and looking to maybe purchase another motor to get out on the lake grrrrr!!!!!

How about the throttle plate in the carb...is it opening?
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if it wasn't for my super smooth carbon drag, my 30 year old Trilene would bust!

Sure sounds like something has become disconnected between the handle and the throttle shaft, although I did experience a similar problem on a rented E-Tec motor where the electronic controls would not allow the throttle to advance unless the engine was fully warmed up.Sounds like your motor is pre E-Tec though.

throttle plate and linkages are functioning I was told a bit ago that I probably blew a crankcase gasket the fuel pump runs off of engine vacuum. I talked to another guy since posting this and he said it's quite common.
