I am planning on going down south (Alabama) to visit some family. I'd like to go catfishing, but it's been quite chilly lately. Do catfish bite well in cool weather? Please respond as soon as you can, I'll probably be leaving a few days after Chrismas.

Channels and blues are year round targets, many huge blues in winter. Flatheads go dormant, even getting a coating of silt on them over winter. Definately go catfishing. Use cut bait.

up here in minnesota we ice fish for channel cats. the best place in the state to ice fish for the channels is on the sauk river chain of lakes by richmond, mn the fish average 16 to 24 inches long with a few larger than that.

I usually do well for catfish just after they've spawned.  So for us, it's pretty much right now for Channel Cats.  The late night to early morning bite has always been better for me.  Ice fishing for Channel cats is a blast.  Frustrating when all they do is swim into your lines and get spooked since they may feed anywhere in the water column.

Up here in MN it varies a lot, but for the most part the channels are just about finished spawning mid June.  The flatheads goes on through mid July.  There's always some stragglers though.  I've caught some flatheads that still have full eggsac on first week of August.  Probably just haven't found a nesting hole yet.
