I bought some chicken liver from the grocery store and went to a pond that is good to catch a couple of catfish. I got there and hooked some chicken liver on a circle hook and but a bobber about a foot and a half up like I usually do. I kept getting bites but when I tried setting the hook the chicken liver just fell off. (This is a normal problem). Anyway I finally set the hook and felt a fish on. It felt light and wasn't fighting like a catfish normally does. It got close enough to see and it was a sunny. I bet the whole time I was getting bites it was sunnys. I guess chicken liver can be used for other types of fish. And its really cheap!

Frozen squid is cheaper and it's really tough, difficult for fish to steal it and you can't cast hard enough to rip it off the hook. I caught my pb channel last year on squid. And a couple squid tentacles on a small hook drive sunfish crazy!

Try buying some panty hose...Or have your mom or girlfriend do it. And make little bait sacks out of the panty hose material. It holds the chicken liver together, makes a nice scent trail, and the panty hose give the hook something to hold on to when you are casting. Also, I know EVERYONE likes to use chicken liver, but I recently tried some dip bait and it worked great. Also, you can try hot dogs too. |

Not everyone. I quit using chicken liver 3 years ago in favor of frozen squid. I do use dip bait occasionally as well. What brand do you use and how do you like it? |

Don't bother buying pantyhose. Most women trash enough hose in a year to keep an angler in mesh for a lifetime! Just explain your use to a mom, wife or girlfriend and ask them to save their old hose! Tom |

You can also use gauze to keep the liver on the hook and it has the same effect as the panty hose. I have never tried to squid, I'll have to give it a try. Here in WV, there are several people that swear by frozen shrimp. I would assume it has a similar affect as the squid. |

Leaving the chicken liver out in the air for a bit tends to toughen it up also. |

I never had any luck with chicken liver. Fished side by side with Sonnies Original and liver, they'll take the Sonnies every time and totally ignore the liver. I've had much more luck with crawlers than liver. Havent even caught as much as a bullhead on liver. Best bet yet is cut bait, especially bluegill heads. |

Frozen shrimp work great, if they aren't biting you can bring the shrimp home and eat them up. |
