The Cost......1/2 dozen hand tied flies $12.00...Annual fishing license $37.30 ...Food and beverages for weekend $50.00...Gas for 6 hour roundtrip drive $90.00...Discovering a beautiful creek with gin-clear pools teaming with catchable size trout and realizing you left your flyrod at home...PRICELESS!!! <!--graemlin::eek:--> And this was how we finished the weekend camping trip into the mountains. We fished a trout derby on a Sierra lake with 'crawlers, Powerbait, spinners and flies retrieved behind a castable clear bubble. Oh, we caught plenty, but none that were tagged. On the return, we make a stop at Dinkey Creek for a look see. I couldn't pass it up. However, a search into the compartment of my camper made me discover that I had forgotten to pack my fly rod. Dang it. I was standing on a boulder looking down into that one pool and could see several nice trout around 8" - 10" just swimming in circles. As you can see by the pics, wouldn't that just make your day? And I only ventured about 50 yards from where I parked the truck and trailer in a dirt lot! I was too disgusted to continue hiking upriver from this one hole.
