Went out today in 90* heat with two friends, some crappie jigs and some spinning and fly tackle. We had some fun with the marabou jigs and then it was time to bring out the big guns. I had just tied three size 16 elk hair caddis that morning because yesterday I had seen a nice stonefly and mayfly hatch going on and figured it would be the same story today. The fly went out and within about a minute there was a slurp, hook set, and a "Holy crap!". Landed the nice little bluegill, released him with a big smile on, and then proceeded to catch another little 'gill with the same fly before it was retired because the wing was spinning. Great experience overall, and it's true you never really know how you'll feel about it until you've landed a fish on a fly you tied yourself. Starting to like this whole fly tying thing.

That's great! I don't have the time to tie my own but I love catching bluegills and bass on my fly rods. Happy fishing!

It is always a great pleasure to catch a fish on something you made your self . another fly that works good for me is a size 10 streamer hook with bead chain eyes tied to the top of hook shank so the hook point will ride up and then tye marabou behind the eyes you can either just finish it of or dub between the eyes .
Take a kid fishing , If the fish aint biting entertain them. Photobucket
