My wife and I got some time yesterday to hit the local river. Weather was upper 60's, lower 70's, sunny skies. Spent about 4 hours on the river, mostly Czech nymphing with my favorite go to fly, size 24 zebra and/or tiger midges. On top, we had prince nymphs, size 18. I also brought along an 8wt with some sinking line that I usually use on the coast. I wanted to strip buggers, as I'm not that confident in buggers. WOW! My attitude changed yesterday. To start off, my finger is still healing from surgery two weeks ago and the first cast sent pain shooting up my arm. I quickly realized I can cast left handed, more or less. Then I switch out and start stripping. Long story short, my wife caught her PB trout, about 20", while I caught two back to back biggies stripping a black bugger, size 12. We managed to C&R a couple of others, but these were our best for the day. BTW, my wife isn't use to trout this big and lost a really big one at the net (wouldn't wait until I reached her to help) as it snapped her 4X tippet. Later, she had another one snap her line, just after she landed her PB. All in all, a great day. We got out to the river around 10:30 and left around 3:00. Mid-day fishing, gotta love it.
