So, I just recieved a Strikemaster electric 8" auger for christmas. I coupld days later i put it in the back of the truck and went out onto a plowed road on the lake, went to use it, and the composite handle sheared off and was useless to me. Has anybody else had these issues with this auger or handle? I have since called strikemaster and they sent me a new handle free fo charge, i am curious of how to prevent this in the future too though. Does it really have to be babied that much?

I have a jiffie ice arger. I am not sure who makes yours. But I have been told that if the handle is not made from steel, then they do tend to break. That is why I got a jiffie. There handles are made from steel. If your handle isn't steel, I would babby it. And I would use padding when transporting it on the ice to prevent the bumps of the ice in weaking it. Also another tip I have for you is this. The bolts that hold down the engine to the auger, keep an eye on them. Cause if you keep using them and they are loose they will strip the threads. Then the engine will come off. I have that problem with mine. I had to put new inserts and tap them. Then put new bolts in. But you can stop that by checking the bolts. I hope that this helps you out.

I have 1 of the Strikemaster Electric augers and mine rides around in the back of my truck all winter except when charging. Then I just put it in my sled with no excess babying and I have had no problems at all. Better luck with the new handle.

I don't own a Strikemaster (I have a Jiffy) but this is the first I've heard of this happening. If it's aluminum, this may happen again. Check to see what the handle is made of and ask Strikemaster if this is unique to your auger. I'm certain they will come clean if it's a material defect. Please let us know what you find out Dogg6 'cause I'm curious....
