As for gear go to Dicks Sporting Goods or Bass Pro they have a great wide selection of Ice fishing Gear and Augers for a day on the ice, or you can check out craigslist under the sporting section and look up ice fishing They have a lot of great gear in good shape for a cheap price. Your gunna wanna bring a cooler with food and drinks and a small camping grill with a couple bottles of propane to maybe cook up some food, soup or hot Chocolate. As for how to use the gear i could sit here all day and talk about how to use ice fishing gear so what i recommend is go on youtube and look up " How To Ice Fish" and you can find videos on how to use tip-ups and how to bait the hook with the shinners. If there is any other sort of information that your looking for search the web on the basics of ice fishing and this will give you a wide selection on all sorts of ice fishing gear needed. Feel free to PM me or reply back in this post and i will try to help you out as much as possible. Hope to see you on the ice this year!
