I went on an ice fishing adventure to Lake George, NY on Friday, February 11, 2011 with my brother, cousin, and some friends. There were 10 of us in all. While I had a great time hanging out with the guys and getting out of the house away from the kids for a day, the "fishing" experience was not what I had hoped for. The wind was blowing hard and the fishing was very slow. In 8 hours our guide was only able to put us on two lake trout, and only one was a keeper. The service was terrible, what the guide promised on his website was not what he delivered on that day. He promised a venison lunch instead he had hotdogs. He did not bother to change lures to see if a different presentations would work. In my opinion this is the worst guide I have ever gone with. It is too bad also as I was hoping to experience something new in fishing that would motivate me to do more fishing this time of year. Instead what I remember the most was freezing my butt off and having to change my presentations on my own to try and catch fish. I understand that fishing is not an exact science but it should never be a bad experience. On a good note, my brother, a novice fisherman, did bring in a 18"-20" lake trout, but had to throw it back because it was too small (lake trout has to be 23" at Lake George). My niece's fiancee did catch a beautiful 27" lake trout on a jig. That was it! Lake George is beautiful and the proximity from my house is only 3 hours. I will be going back but I'll wait until spring thaw to put my boat out instead of ice fishing.

Thats a shame that you didn't have the best trip, tedesi. I went there last summer with my family and I had a great time. Couldn't bag any lakers, but we did get some nice smallies and panfish. Don't get discouraged, though. Try ice fishing some other places and with some better guides, I hear it can become a real passion.

Tesdi, next time you go up, give me a holler, I live 4 hours away and I know for a fact I'd be a much better guide than the one you had... I took a guy up there for the first time this year and he caught 6 lakers the first day, in 3 hours. Catching lakers is pretty easy once you know what your doing. We were averaging 12-15 keppers a day EACH. If you ever want some inside info or tip**** me up, I'll be glad to help out a fellow fisherman!

Thanks guys. I really am disappointed with my experience, but maybe I will give it another shot. Windburned, I will definitely take you up on that offer. Maybe not this winter season, but definitely next season.
