    Howdy fellas,

Quick question for everyone. I purchased one of those cheap Hummingbird 120 fish finders at BPS a few weeks ago to use for ice fishing.

Does anyone else use these "summer" fish finders for ice fishing??

If yes, how should I set it up? I was thinking of using PVP to keep the transducer still.

    Keep fishin'

I use a vexilar and sometimes a camera, but have never tried a standard fish finder, don't know how it will hold up in the cold/.

Hi all. I use my harbor frt fish finder all year. All I do is keep it out of the cold and dry. It works fine. Its a cheep one 40-60 bucks or so. Its small with a lanyard, or fits in a pocket , runs on 4AAA s. Its not the best but it works for me. As for the transducer it comes with a float rig to hold it at what depth I like. Awhile back the float got lost. What I did was take a chunk of styrafoam and made one for it. I cut it to size and put a hole in the center, then cut a slot for the cord. Tied a knot in the cord {not too tight} and slipped it in the slot above the float. You can move the knot to adjust depth. I dont know if this would work in moving water but works fine in the lakes and ponds i fish. Hope this will help. Tight lines and bent rods [fish on fish on] Life member 91

I have a Lowrance X67C that I use for Soft and Hardwater. Would never leave home without it.

if you still have the owners manual check this. it seems like i remember reading that they filled the screen with nitrogen and its good to like 60 below. and my hummer model 170 has been rained on quite a few times ! i bought an old eagle brand ice fishing graph at a flea market for $20, and that works great too !
i wouldnt worry about that humminbird on the ice,, their a pretty tough nut !

forgot about set up part,,,, you can build a box to fit, or just get a recargable 12 volt batterie, then find a plastic box to hold it all. small motorcycle battery will work. or kids riding toy battery. loop the transducer line around and tie with black tape, so only about 18 inches hangs down in the hole.

I use a old tipup that my transducer is attached too. I drill 2 holes close to each other and use the fishfinder in one and jig in the other. I have my battery inside a old pistol case and have the unit mounted on top of the case.
