I fish primarily with mono and braided. Iuse mono on my spinning reels and braided with a mono leader on my conventional reels. It's realy what you are comfordable with.

My experience with Braided Line in the Surf is that it tends to untwist in strong under currents. I do use it as leader when the action is fast for toothy fish like Blue Fish but it Won’t save you from Sharks. Prefer Mono Line with heavier Mono Leader. My 2 cents.

Down here in south Texas, most surf fishermen use mono. The braid tends to fray after rubing on the sand for a while.

As far as adding distance, the line is not much help. I have 20 lb mono on my long rod and fish about 150 yards out. The water never gets above my ankles.

Hope to meet you on the sand

Mono works just fine. I use 20 lb line and 17lb leader.

I use Mono myself, 17 lb topped off with a 50 lb shocker and 80 lb lead on my heavers, 12 lb for my lil toothy critters with a 20 lb lead,   But also depends on what fish Im am going after sharks I will go up to 200 lb lead for when we kite or Yak baits out for bigger game.
