The family and I are going to Orange Beach, AL (Gulf Shores) in August. We have reserved a nice little condo on Old River with a fishing dock. I have no idea what to bring. Will I need my midwest tackle bag and an assortment of rods? I figure I will be doing mostly tightline, bobber and maybe some surf casting but I have no clue what baits to use or presentations to make. Any advice or ridicule will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bass, The bait of Champions.

I live in Florida but the fishing is about the same. I would bring spinning gear with 10 - 25 pound test line. Some freshwater bass lures work well in the saltwater coastal areas for sea trout and redfish. Tube baits and topwater crank baits. Bobbers and #1 thru #3 hooks work well. Check bait shops for live shrimp and other baits for the area you are going to. Most import thing is to get a copy of the local saltwater license and size limit laws (you may be able to find this on line under Alabama Saltwater fishing requirements). Good Luck and have a safe vacation. Paul |

Thanks to both of you, I wasn't sure if my bass and cat gear would be appropriate or not, sounds like it will though. A guy I work with said shrimp is key where he fished in Florida. I have already looked into the license but being that I have I no knowledge of saltwater fish I am a bit worried about the size limits issue. It would be nice if the CLUB could put together a fish directory. |

hey i have a condo on old river and fish there every weekend. What you are going to want to do is get atleast a dozen if not 2 dozen live shrimp, and the best way to fish for speckled trout, white trout, or redfish is to free line a live shrimp in the lights at night with a kahle hook, 8-15 pound line and a good spinning reel or baitcaster. That should do the trick. Good Luck! |

Hey that really helps. I just hope the place is not completely ruined by BP. |

You may not want to go there now. I think that area is now closed to all fishing Thanks to BP. Keep an eye on the news.

hey i was fishing off the beach today at orange beach and caught some ladyfish and a pompano. While i was out there i found one little bit of oil about the size of a half dollar. Thankfully the oil hasn't hit us very hard yet but i'm afraid it's coming. |

Here is the lastest on the closed waters in the Gulf. Good Luck Shrimp on jig heads or mud minnows are always a hit with the local fish http://www.examiner.com/x-29653-Flo...iner-email |
